What do you wear to stay cool when it's hot and humid?

Just that really... I'm currently in the south east of England and nervously eyeing the weather forecast. Is there anything I can order online that will arrive in the next couple of days and prevent me from being a sweaty mess in the hot and humid weather?

Summer dresses? Hush has some lovely ones. Linen short sleeve shirts and shorts?

sanitygirl · 15/06/2022 13:43

I'm wearing a loose linen jumpsuit today - nice and fresh. It was from a local shop but I'll see if I can find a link to similar

SarahWoodruff · 15/06/2022 13:44

I have some loose cotton jumpsuits from a brand called Om Baby - really lovely.

sanitygirl · 15/06/2022 13:46

This kind of thing BRONG Womens Overalls Casual Loose Dungarees Soft Cotton Linen Womens Jumpsuit Baggy Playsuit Adjustable Straps with Pockets amzn.eu/aHSeXXR

You can wear with a vest or T-shirt underneath, or just a crop top

Moonface123 · 15/06/2022 13:54

Fatface have some nice jumpsuits, very cool and lovely design, plus don't crease.

TaranThePigKeeper · 15/06/2022 13:55

Loose, cotton or linen. Dresses, or some great cotton trousers I bought from Debenhams years ago (I got three pairs!) with a loose fitting top.

TaranThePigKeeper · 15/06/2022 13:58

Carry a spritzer spray with water in it for your face and décolletage - it really helps cool you. Think cool thoughts. Try to give yourself more time to get from one place to another, so you can do it slowly and not get in a muck sweat. If you use a bus or tube, I used to get off early, and use my extra time allowance to walk slowly to my destination so I could be in the air, even if it’s hot air, for a bit before going back inside.

I've got some of these dresses from H & M

Loose

Cotton or linen

Anything you can manage without a bra (depends on nork size)

Anything without a waist

Basically as few contact points as possible while still being sufficiently covered!

There’s quite a few dresses about right now which have no waist and hang from the shoulders - they make me look pregnant tbh but are ideal for hot weather

FunnyTalks · 15/06/2022 14:44

High waist cotton cycling shorts from h&m. Instead of pants. With a t-shirt at home and under a dress when out. Amazing for stopping the chub rub (which I get whatever size I am) but they also seem to be less sweaty than any of my pants which has surprised me!

Mercurial123 · 15/06/2022 14:54

I live in a hot and humid country. I hate anything clingy. Loose dresses and trousers work well for me. Just bought this in the Matches sale. Washes well and has pockets.

Loose tapered trousers either plain or patterned and a t-shirt. Can't do jeans in this heat!

carefullycourageous · 15/06/2022 18:07

I like to be covered so I don't need suncream. Today I am wearing flowy light trousers with a linen dress instead of a top.

AmbushedByCake1 · 15/06/2022 18:12

I live in short denim shorts and big blowsy linen shirts. And Birkenstocks.

DarlingCoffee · 15/06/2022 18:24

Loose maxi dresses and light trousers which are so comfy you can even sleep in them, I buy mine from Fat Face who make these every year

LightOfAThousandStars · 15/06/2022 18:35

@DarlingCoffee where do you buy your maxi dresses from please?

noodlezoodle · 15/06/2022 18:56

Some great ideas here, thank you. As a late forty-something who's currently carrying an extra couple of stone I'm permanently boiling so as well as the fabric advice I appreciate all the keeping cool tips!

I'm tall and jumpsuits don't always work for me without giving me an epic wedgie, but the one suggested by @sanitygirl looks workable with the adjustable straps.

Hush really does have some lovely dresses but a bit more than I want to pay. However I am also drooling over @Mercurial123 's Maxmara dress.

@AmbushedByCake1 I'm already in denim shorts and birks but I definitely need some big linen shirts!
