People who have to wear suits at work - where do you buy them from?

Not a natural suit-wearer - I get hot easily. But I have to wear one (or jacket and smart clothes). Does anyone have a go-to comfortable, lightweight but attractive suit shop please?

Next and quite affordable

I always use Next for suits. You can also mix and match if you need a different size top and bottoms.

Agree that Next is quite good for affordable suits. You might need to go online if your local store doesn't do suits (ours doesn't, but the one in One New Change does). I used to buy suits from Hobbs and Reiss too but those were pricier.

I will say that in hot weather, I'd highly recommend investing in a very good jacket (or two - perhaps one "traditional" and one with 3/4 sleeves) and then buying dresses that can be worn with the jacket/s. They're usually lighter and not having anything around my waist always makes me less hot. I've bought dresses for work from places like Wallis, Phase 8 and the department store own-brands (eg Jasper Conran or Linea). But honestly, it depends on your style and preference. Dresses are also more flexible and can be worn in non-work settings.

I can't find much on the Next website - am I doing something wrong?

Mmm, interesting. I had a look and not a lot. A sign of changing times?

If you are open to the dresses idea Wallis

Jackets like this would go with some of the above dresses

Also suits at Wallis

Do you have any outlet stores nearby? Or a Boundary Mill or similar? I haven't bought a suit for a while but have had several good quality ones vastly reduced from these types of places, brands like Jaeger, Hobbs, Kaliko, Precis

Alternatively M&S might be worth a try

Suits in sober colours have basically vanished (there is a current trend for lilac or coral...).

I'm a lawyer and the standard uniform for senior women now is a dress and contrasting jacket.

Purpleavocado · 15/06/2022 13:53

Would you be allowed to wear a tailored dress and nice cardigan or short jacket?

TrimItOff · 15/06/2022 14:14

Dress and jacket would suit me better I think. That Wallis one looks good - a jacket without lapels, is it good with a dress?

Matalan are often surprisingly good for work wear.

TrimItOff · 15/06/2022 15:48

And... How many do I need? For wearing every day.

No outlet store but I could find one. Sorry, I missed that one.
