Young fashionista boho summer wedding … what will they be wearing?

Young professionals very chic - having a rustic / boho summer wedding in a rural venue. What will they all be wearing? I am 55 don’t want to copy them but don’t want to look too “Ascot” or too informal….

I don’t want to look dated or try hard - just elegant, contemporary, comfortable etc.

just bumping. I expect my descriptors were off putting and show how out of touch I am ….

I’m off to a similar wedding and am 5 years younger than you. I’m going to wear a jumpsuit, similar to the Nancy Mac style ones (but a cheaper version I found on vinted).

www.net-a-porter.com/en-gb/shop/product/rixo/clothing/midi-dresses/lucile-floral-print-crepe-de-chine-dress/25185454455852402 - not sure of your size. Rixo do some great dresses (always lots knocking about in the sales.)

Wrap dress and sandals? My go-to when I'm unsure

I'd go for something from Nobody's Child. They have a wedding guest section

Look up the Instagram photos of Luke Edward hall’s recent wedding. Very hip young interior designer, Cotswolds garden wedding, and the wedding guest outfits seem to fit your brief. All very prairie dreams and long flowing dresses (ditto hair).

As a 55 year old, I would have a look at what Carole Middleton was wearing at ascot (ironically!) - a me and em dress I think that Kate also wore. I think she always nails dressing really well, but this was a more ‘casual’ ie unstructured look and I thought she looked great.

Older boho - Wyse skirt, lots of ‘interesting’ jewellery, Zara has some good stuff, sandals or low wedgy things, good blow dry. jumpsuit also a brilliant idea.

you could always look at renting an outfit if you feel like buying into a mad boho wedding outfit is an investment with little returns for you.

I'd wear trousers. Suits for women are v fashionable.

I got this dress from asos recently and it is gorgeous on. I think I’d wear this to that sort of wedding…

I’d look for a floaty, boho but elegant midi/maxi dress, maybe in silk or in a bold colour or print. The Outlet is good for that kind of thing, or somewhere like Ba$sh or Rico.

I had a similar wedding a couple of weeks ago, OP. I bought a me + em dress that I'd seen Emma Barnett wearing in her Nazanin interview. Size down for that brand though.

I'm 45 and have attended similar weddings this summer, have worn various Zara midi slip dresses to all of them, kimono over, super sexy heels, gold strappy sandals mostly but also lime green ones, relaxed blow dry or slicked back middle parted low bun, not to ott on makeup, bronzed face and flicky black eyeliner only, fluffy brows, and a subtle spray tan

Laquila · 15/06/2022 13:24

My first though was French Girl Wedding Chic!

Personally (I'm 40) I would avoid stuff like shift dresses, cropped structured jackets/boleros, fascinators etc BUT my 70-yr old mum looks great and super chic in all these so it's horses for courses I guess.

I tend to wear more flowy midi dresses to weddings now, often with a smaller print, or jumpsuits - nothing above the knee. I don't really wear matchy heels/bags - tend to stick with metallics and neutrals and I'm not bothered if they clash a bit. I don't mind a headband but not a fan of much else, headgear-wise.

I have one this summer that I've just order a lovely bright reddish-orange patterned jumpsuit for - planning to wear that with block-heel sandals and a tan 👍 (and maybe my leather jacket for the evening).

I'm going to a similar sounding wedding and am wearing this (in my 30s) from hope and ivy. It comes down to my ankles so is perfect for heels for the formal wedding and then flat sandals for the reception

Ooh @meloncolic, love those photos! Casually chic without trying too hard.

@Headshothelp I love that dress. I think the vibe now for weddings is much more "Oh THIS old thing" than it used to be - I think it's seen as much cooler now to wear something you already have or can wear again for a different occasion rather than Wedding Outfits (deliberate capitals).

This is really helpful - thanks all. Feel like I have much more of a direction of what to be looking for. I have a fabulous Rixo dress that I picked up in a charity shop for £15!
