Need outfit to cover 3 month pregnant tummy, and in WHITE

Hello, I'm attending an occasion next month when I hope to be just about to have my 12 week scan. The dress code is white (I know) and I was wondering what kind of thing might work to cover up the bump as far as possible. I'm quite curvy so there's already a noticeable tummy despite first time pregnancy, and I can see people looking. Would love advice as I obviously can't ask friends/family for theirs! Thanks!

I think I’d look for a trapeze shape dress - quite a lot around at the moment and won’t really show any bumps.

minipie · 06/06/2022 15:18

this kind of shape

Oh that is pretty! Thank you. I've seen a few tiered, strappy maxi dresses but I think there's a risk of looking like I'm wearing a 19th century nightie in them

Would something like this work with the tie loosely tied? Or just - no 😂

Bucking the trend here but does it have to be a dress? Best thing for covering a tummy I find is a blazer. You could go white cami with jeans (untucked) plus white blazer over the top.

EnterACloud · 06/06/2022 15:40

Actually no, doesn't have to be a dress. I guess I just thought it was more economical to buy a dress. That does sound like a good look!

I would say an open jacket and long dangling scarf inside will hide a bump dress or trousers underneath and if you have it cleavage.

Dilbertian · 06/06/2022 15:42

I've been looking for something similar (though I'm just fat, not pregnant) and find that it's really difficult to find something that does not look like a nightie.

I wonder whether this boxy design would work to disguise your bump?

Does the dress have to be plain white?

EnterACloud · 06/06/2022 15:43

The broderie one is nice! Thanks for the link.

Just wish I could wear a blimming pattern or a big jumper!

Thanks Dilbertian, did you get that one? I think it looks very classy but SO different to what I'd normally wear that my loved ones would be asking a lot of questions.

In answer to a PP yes I do have cleavage and that's a good idea to draw attention up. I've seen things like this www.boden.co.uk/en-gb/short-sleeve-linen-dress-white/sty-d0252-wht?cat=C1_S2_G4 but wonder whether that would work, hard to tell how tight that waist is.

Wedding dress obviously. Nobody, but NOBODY would dare say “the bride looks podgy”. 😂

HA no it's not a wedding, it's a party. God I bet loads of women have to do this with their weddings though, nightmare.

Wish I was confident enough that the pregnancy would go well to just wear something tight with "it's a baby, not pizza" written over the bump 😀

How formal? Sainsburys has a lovely white summer dress (long and loose) with little blue palm trees on it. So so nice.

Acunningruse · 06/06/2022 15:53

Thinking outside the box... an alternative would be to have a private scan before the party, so that you could then feel confident in telling people you're pregnant? otherwise it sounds like it could be a bit of a nightmare in terms of trying to hide your bump plus presumably hide not drinking alcohol?

Dilbertian · 06/06/2022 16:05

I didn't buy that dress, though it's one I'm considering. I've bought this shirt, and may wear it with white trousers, or return it if I find an outfit I prefer. I'd rather wear a dress. But the advantage of the top I'd that if you've got a bust the top will skim your tummy rather than curve around it, and the band of grey will disguise/distract.

It's a nice top, feels very nice. I might keep it in any case Grin

Are you sure you want to go? 😂

I would not be buying a white outfit for one party.

LadyOfTheCanyon · 06/06/2022 18:52

That first H&M dress is lovely.
