Job interview help required!

I have a job interview on Friday this week and am completely blank on what to wear!

Its a pastoral position (non teaching) in a boarding school, it seems fairly relaxed as a school and prides itself on being homely.

I haven’t needed interview clothes for 8 years when I was 1 child and 2 dress sizes lighter! My current work clothes are super casual. I’m a size 14 and 5’8” if that helps?!

I only have today and only have standard high street shops. Next, M&S, John Lewis, H&M etc. I can’t order online as there’s no one home all week to take deliveries.

Also I don’t have much money, under £100 for everything including shoes - I do have black ballet pumps already if they are acceptable?

I had my interview this morning! I can’t judge how it went, some questions I felt in nailed and others I feel less confident about, but I’m trying not to analyse it after the fact. But the overall vibe was positive. I won’t find out for a week so I’m going to forget about it for now, plus it’s my birthday tomorrow!!!!

Anyway, the clothes felt good! I felt like I was in keeping with the rest of the staff but slightly smarter, which I guess it was you want! Many thanks to you all but especially @TottersBlankly who really nailed the boarding school vibe for me.

Fingers crossed and I’ll update either way.

That sounds positive! I wondered this morning how things were going for you.

So … Are there any other schools you might apply to for a similar position, now you’re feeling acclimatised? You could investigate possibilities to distract you from waiting to hear about this interview.

Good luck I hope you get it. It's all good experience regardless

I'll be teaching soon so this thread was very helpful clothes wise

My town is full of boarding schools, including one of the top girls schools (totally outing myself!) so there’s definitely possibilities here. If I miss out on this position I will ask for feedback and work on getting relevant skills I may be lacking.

It was great looking around and hearing about school life, it’s such a lovely school and the job is exactly what I’d love to do. I have my fingers and toes crossed!

I’m very happy for you - it’ll probably be a wonderfully satisfying and enjoyable job. (Or career?)

Well done!

Woo hoo. Congratulations, well done. That's fantastic news.
Sorry can't help on the clothes but sounds like you've nailed that too.

DeanStockwelll · 16/06/2022 22:35

Wow congratulations that's great news well done

I would say for day to day clothes loose fitting trousers and a couple of different coloured blouses, the look can be changed fairly cheaply with different belts , scarfs, necklace etc .

Something comfy and easy to care for and won't crease throughout the day ( so no linen)
