Have 2 boys and now seem to spend inordinate amounts of time standing in muddy fields....

Now it's colder I just don't seem to have the right coat:

  • black puffa is a bit short
  • long per una one is a bit smart
  • too cold for just a fleece

I've been wearing a waterproof jacket with a fleece underneath, but it feels really scruffy, and I've noticed other mums seem to have more trendy, mid-length, warm looking coats.

Have looked, but can't really find anything that seems quite right. Don't really want wool, as it would be useful if it was at least showerproof?

In days of old, it would have been a Barbour I suspect, but I've kind of moved on from my sloane days now!

I wear fleece socks, wellies, thermal undies.. (can I just suggest mens thermals as the womens gusset is uncomfortable under jeans),loads of layers and a 30 year old snorkel coat for watching rugby. (it was my brothers old school coat I found in my mums cupboard) not very elegant but v warm...

Tchibo have some ski stuff including some jackets in their sale atm. Not bad prices.

Tried trendy and have now ended up with a Joules 5 in 1 which does the job.

Sorry if it's already been mentioned, but I have the Lands End Stadium Squall and it is utterly fab, best purchase I have made for years. Lovely and warm but lightweight and not all huge like a puffa jacket. I love it.

What colour Wilbur? And what do you reckon about sizing - do they tend to be roomy?

Am quite liking the shorter squall coat in camel (I have too much black!)

I have it in black as I already have a brown wool coat and I didn't want anything too pale. I have the medium size and I would say it is roomy - I can get a big sweater on underneath easily. I am 5ft 8 and a size 12 on top, 14 on bottom and I have v broad shoulders and long arms. If I could wave a wand I would have the sleeves 2 inches longer, but as I say, the shoulders which can often be a prob for me in coats and jackets are fine.
