Hi

My sister is hugely important in my life and I want to get her something amazing. I've seen some items in Liberty but wondering whether it's worth me stretching to more for say a bigger brand like Cartier.

For such a large spend, I’d definitely ask her what she wants. Jewellery etc is very personal and she might be painstakingly saving up for something else that she’d rather have.

stclair · 05/06/2022 11:47

That’s gorgeous. If you know she would like it then go for it. Nice to have something a bit different to the well known brands. Although whenever I’ve bought my sister jewellery I’ve got it wrong each time!

Mercurial123 · 05/06/2022 11:49

Can you give her a Liberty voucher then go shopping there and lunch after? Cartier would be in the thousands for a necklace.

I love Liberty jewellery department. I was there last month and their selection is so good. I ended up buying these from Rachel Quinn

@Mercurial123 I love those and my sister loves clouds too though she has a much cheaper copy. She loves Liberty and I want something she can wear a lot.

The staff are super helpful and friendly. I loved the CeCe hand painted enamel pendants but they were too expensive.

Hope you find something she loves.

Some excellent points made here. I would find that piece a little too quirky personally, and find with coloured jewellery I overthink the other stuff I am wearing to see if it 'goes'. A voucher/lunch out first sounds like a great plan. You sound like a lovely sister.

That's lovely. It's all a matter of personal taste but personally I'd take Liberty over Cartier anyway.

I have a Cartier chain which I never wear whereas my sister loves colours. Hoping the sizing works. Liberty also gives 15% off first orders!

The sizing is very important. You need to be sure

newbiename · 05/06/2022 18:46

Beautiful ring.

RunningFromInsanity · 05/06/2022 19:33

I’d be very uncomfortable if my sister bought me an £800 piece of jewellery.

@RunningFromInsanity I guess it's different in that we only have each other so we spoil each other. This is a big birthday and I'm financially able to do this for her. She's incredibly kind and does so much for others. I spend on my family and hers.

I don't see how this is relevant. Everyone is different.

I absolutely love the ring, it's gorgeous. I'm assuming you know your sister's style well. I agree with pp that the sizing is important, of course she can always easily have it adjusted but nice if she doesn't have to.

Chewbecca · 05/06/2022 20:26

I love the ring.

user1487194234 · 05/06/2022 20:28

I certainly would not be uncomfortable
Would buy my sister something lovely with no particular reference to the price

Not really really relevant what you would feel. The amount may be a fortune to some. A pittance to others

RunningFromInsanity · 05/06/2022 20:36

It’s not really about affording it, at that cost there is no way she would be able to tell you if she didn’t like it, and she would feel obliged to wear it.
Jewellery is a very personal taste.

TokyoSushi · 05/06/2022 20:40

I love it! You sound like a lovely sister!

MrBoldwood · 05/06/2022 20:53

Get her a voucher. Jewellery is very personal.

Mrcpy · 05/06/2022 21:01

You sound like a lovely sister. Please take her on a shopping trip so she can choose!

Eesha · 05/06/2022 21:04

I definitely know my sister's taste but I wondered whether it was better to buy something like Cartier which may hold their value. This is something I feel she will regularly wear.

OP posts:
WooNoodle · 05/06/2022 21:10

No don't go for Cartier just for the sake of it. Buy something you know she will love.

Mrcpy · 05/06/2022 21:13

Cartier prices are inflated, and with jewellery you can’t really tell where it’s from unless it’s one of their most iconic designs.

TheChosenTwo · 05/06/2022 21:28

Based on what you’ve said I think you should get her the ring. If she doesn’t like it I presume she can exchange it?
you sound like a really lovely sister and seem to totally appreciate her, it’s nice to spoil people 😊

Metabigot · 05/06/2022 21:32

I'd take her shopping to liberty and point out the ring. If she likes it, buy it but if she prefers another item the choice is hers. Presumably as a sister she can be honest.
