Help dress me for the beach in Ibiza

Beachstress · 02/06/2022 16:45

I have been invited on a girls trip to Ibiza - exciting but not my natural habitat (!) and I have no idea what to wear to beach bars/parties which is age appropriate but not frumpy

Can you help with clothes suggestions please?

I’m not that friendly with the group so when I have asked on the WhatsApp group the answers are ‘dresses, shorts, bikinis, cover ups’.

I am not a sunworshipper so I don’t have bikinis and coverups and will be starting from scratch. All pictures I have googled show women with long flowing hair, string bikinis with their bums out - not a look I can pull off sadly…

Any help to make me feel comfortable gladly accepted - TIA x

Must note I am over 40 but look young - ish! Comfortable shoes suggestion on AIBU wasn’t the sort of recommendation I was looking for! 😂

There's loads of dress options available that could be adapted for day and night. Local boutiques are often good for these types of things.

Try village boutique...they are Bolton based but you can order online & make returns

I also absolutely love this

Re sandals, I have new look footbed sandals which are comfy. They say wide but I have narrowish feet and they don't feel too big. Something like this would go with everything

I agree with straw hat, a Panama is timeless and a straw beach bag
Couple of bikinis and a swimsuit.
Long beach shirt, M&S have some good ones and a couple of longish kaftans that can go from breakfast, beach, lunch to sundowners.
I like Fit Flops for comfort and some bright Birkenstocks.
Flat beaded or jewelled sandals for evening.
A couple of summer dresses for going out and short and tee shirt/ shirts for sightseeing.
Cross body bag for going out.
Over sized sunglasses.
A gallon of Factor 30

If you have a healthy budget look on The OUTNET for Heidi Klein, Melissa Odabash and Seafolly

You can't go wrong with any of Zara's cotton dresses www.zara.com/uk/en/woman-dresses-poplin-l2350.html

Tankini all the way! Being at a beach party all day it will make things so much simpler 🤣 you can mix and match tops and bottoms.
I would go for a long, wafty kaftan over the top so that you can be in the sun and be covered.

@Pieceofpurplesky I love those items you've linked. I might get them for my hols in august.

Pieceofpurplesky · 02/06/2022 19:59

Once over a certain age a tankini is necessary for speed @smith19784

smith19784 · 02/06/2022 20:07

🤣🤣🤣 I never thought about that but you might be right. I've not been abroad since 2019 so it might be time I considered that now. Im so excited to go abroad & get some sun I'll probably pee myself with excitement whatever im wearing.

I haven't heard of cupshe but they've got some gorgeous things.

Pieceofpurplesky · 02/06/2022 20:07

And good prices!

NashvilleQueen · 02/06/2022 20:28

Will you be expected to socialise in swimwear? That's often what I see in photos of Ibiza holidays. Pool parties where you spend the day/evening in a bikini top and sarong. My idea of tbh!

Forestcantrun · 02/06/2022 20:43

@Pieceofpurplesky is cupshe legitimate? It's all over my social media and the pieces look good.
@Beachstress I feel your pain. I never know what to wear on girl weekends even tho I manage to dress myself generally 😂 Whatever type of swimwear you're comfortable in, bring a couple of sets. I'm a big fan of simple maxi dresses ( M&S usually provide) as you can daytime or night time them, or throw over bikini , and sandals. Those newlook ones up the thread look class and would go with anything.

Pieceofpurplesky · 02/06/2022 20:43

@Forestcantrun I buy it via Amazon

Annexlife · 02/06/2022 21:15

I've bought direct from cupshe, all good

heavyistheheed · 02/06/2022 22:54

I'd go for a nice bikini with some shorts. Maybe crochet shorts if you're feeling risqué. Denim (short) shorts if not. Or a one piece with a sexy strappy back with shorts.

Sliders on your feet

Panama hat or a visor

Nice sunglasses.

Really it all depends where you're going and also how body confident you are Smile

I haven't been to Ibiza since BC (before Covid) and I miss it!

Oh and it really doesn't matter what side of 40 you are, especially not in Ibiza

Sickoffamilydrama · 02/06/2022 23:09

I really rate Pour moi for bikinis so they might be worth a look.

How well off is the group? as Ibiza does have a expensive yacht ⛵ crowd, if they are in this kind of group then you might need some slightly smarter (still with a beach/ boohoo vibe). Although it's been a while life time literally 15 years since I went.

EllaPaella · 03/06/2022 07:37

Have a look at Aspiga for dresses. Agree with Pour Moi for bikinis and swimsuits, they are very flattering.
I would take a few bikinis/costumes with a couple of nice beach cover-ups that you can throw over to wear down to the beach and in the beach bar/restaurant later in the day.
A couple of nice maxi dresses for wearing out in the evenings and some nice jewellery to match. Flipflops will be all you need during the day, take some nice slightly dressier sandals for the evenings.

SommerTen · 03/06/2022 12:46

Im 45, I go on a lot of beach holidays including Ibiza... in Ibiza I would definitely wear a bikini.
Figleaves at Simply Be do bra size halterneck bikini tops & bikini bottoms for all sizes.. in pretty & tropical patterns.

I'm quite pale so even with spf 50 on my face & spf 30 on my body I can burn, although I do tan eventually.
So I tend to take a cover up, usually like a little loose tshirt or kaftan for the beach.
I would also wear a pair of eg denim shorts or beach shorts to the beach to pull on if you go for lunch or up to a bar for drinks etc.

My favourite denim shorts are the boyfriend shorts from Next as they are short but not cut up my bum basically. But you can get shorts anywhere.

My favourite place to buy cover ups is River Island, they have a Summer Shop online with some lovely items for all sizes. Just remember if want a short kaftan the sleeves need to be as loose as possible or they stick to you.
Mini, midi & maxi dresses are all in fashion now for when you want to dress up - both River Island & New Look seem to have a good selection mainly online though.

For a pretty but adequate Beach bag look at Accessorize.. you will also need a small crossbody for your essentials if you go clubbing. Look at River Island, New Look, Zara for cute crossbodys.

For sandals... I've been pleased with New Looks selection this year. They do pretty sandals with 'Love Comfort' soles. Their white plimsolls are popular too.
On the beach I like to wear Havianas which you can buy in Office, or Schuh.

Hats... I tend to wear a pastel coloured baseball cap when sunbathing as you can lie down in it but my younger sister likes a straw hat which suits her. You need to go somewhere like Accessorize and try some on.

Basically whatever you wear remember details like colour, beading, sequins, cut outs, are all good.
Have a lovely time!!

SommerTen · 03/06/2022 12:47

Sorry for the essay but I do love a good beach holiday outfit!

SommerTen · 03/06/2022 12:51

Oh yes & take 2 Hammam towels - one to lie on and one to dry yourself with if you do go swimming. They are much lighter than normal towels & dry quickly.
