A few questions about getting your eyebrows shaped

OK, up until now I've plucked and shaped (well sort of shaped) my own eyebrows. However after reading another thread on here about what a difference it can make getting them done professionally I'm tempted to go for it.

My eyebrows are very dark and could be quite big if I didn't keep them under control (luckily not a mono-brow though ).

What do you ask for when you get them done? Is there an eyebrow equivalent to your Hollywood/Brazillian etc .

I don't want to end up with them all being removed only to have to draw them on again (WHY do people do that??).

Also I don't want to end up with an over-plucked look that makes me resemble a startled blow-up doll IYKWIM.

Hello, I think the people at the salons tend to know what shape would suit you. I'm sure they would consult with you before doing anything. I've had my eyebrows done a couple of times. They did a nice jobs each time.
I don't understand why people do that either - all removed and drawn in. odd.
I don't think there's a name for them like you would for a bikini wax, etc. Not as far as I know anyway.

if you can, find someone who can do threading - it gives the best shape

also, however you have them shaped it is then much easier to keep them tidy between appts IMO

Ooooh.. watching this - I have been plucking my eyebrows since I was about 14. I realised a few months ago that, over the years things got a bit mishapen and grew everything back just before Christmas. I too was going to go for the professional shaping but in the end just had to tidy up underneath. I would still like them doing professionally though.

So am I right in saying you have to let them go a bit wild beforehand so they have something to work with? How long though?

I've got an appt for my hair in a couple of weeks so I might have a word with the beauty therapist there, get her advice and book myself in.

PS -does it hurt? I'm fine plucking my own eyebrows but I can imagine it hurts more if someone else does it.

I'm not sure you have to grow them back - but I have to confess that I realised that I had been "messing" with them a little too long - it was eons ago I decided I wanted the Brooke Shields look so plucked the top of my eyebrows off. Over the years I tweaked a bit here and tweaked a bit there and recently realised I had created monster! That's why I grew mine back, so I know what I had to work with. I look quite different now (in an eyebrow sense!) I have arched eyebrows and am really quite pleased!
You might read into this that I had, over the years, considerably overplucked - not to the point where I had to draw anything in, oh lordy no, but they were just the "wrong shape" and probably looked quite alien to where they were sitting.

I would ask your beautician her opinion - and have a careful look at her eyebrows to see where to place your marker!

I get my eyebrows threaded every 4 weeks and have been doing this for the last 3 years. I really recommended it, you get a great shape and they can get the really tiny hairs that you cant get to with tweezers or wax. The first time I got them done I did let them grow a bit so they had something to work with but I don?t think I have ever told them what shape I want they just do it to suit your face shape.

Hi BettySpaghetti im a therapist and all you need to do is book in for an eyebrow wax not called anything else.A good therapist will get you to look in a mirror first and go through what you want.I usually ask do you want them thin or not(makes sure we have that clear straight away so as not to take too much),do you want the middle done and do you want any taken from above.You should never have them taken from above as you lose the natural shape but some people like it done.You dont need to grow them all back but we do need somthing to work with.
