Clinique Super City Block -discontinued.

I have used Super City block for years, I see it’s now discontinued and replaced with Superdefence City Block 50 -which is a mineral and chemical sunscreen. The old one was just mineral. Has anyone who also used Super City Block tried this new one? I’m wondering how they compare.
TIA.

I use Prevage City Smart. I haven't used Clinique so I can't say if it's similar.

The city smart is factor 50 with a neutral tone so i don't use a primer as well.

It's a bit pricey, so I only buy it when it's on special.

Yourearealboy · 12/03/2023 21:02

That one is only 25spf Meglet and I didn’t know they tested on animals.

Prevage City Smart Is £££ Shock way out of my price range!

Thanks for the suggestions Nix I will take a look.

so today was a lovely sunny day and I sat in the garden reading my book for an hour.
I had put Nudestix on first thing as normal. I applied another layer as I was sitting out, and my cheeks have now got bright pink patches on them 😡
I will buy one of the suggestions to try.

@Yourearealboy will you let us know what you try?

I'm trying to make the last bit of cityblock I have left, last but can't work out what I need when it's gone. I've been keeping an eye on this thread for inspiration!

I like/need the spf and I also need the evening out of tone and blemishes, seems to work well for me. It's like I've made an effort but I haven't really 😬
I'm not a fan of foundation every day, but do use for evenings/ going out etc.

So do I need primer (which I used in the past prior to cityblock) or something else? Can I use the primer on its own?

I've never used bb or cc cream but maybe I need to try?

mybeautifuloak · 08/04/2023 22:46

Super city was a mixed chemical and mineral spf. It contained Octinoxate and Octyl Salicylate which are both commonly used chemical sun filters.

lilsupersparks · 08/04/2023 23:10

I use à Soap and Glory sun screen for my face- it’s chemical but sits well under makeup and I’ve never burned with it.

Can't see those ingredients in the ingredients list of my last tube? Are you sure you're talking about the factor 40 one?

I just bought the Avene Eau Thermale spf50 and it ticks many boxes but is tinted and is darker than my natural skin colour.

Why can't Clinique bring back City Block 40?? 😭😭😭

mybeautifuloak · 09/04/2023 11:59

@DanglingMod these are the unregulated chemical sunscreens. They are regulated chemicals for use in skin products but not regulated as sunscreens so they get used in 'mineral' sunscreens under the headline 'no chemical sunscreens' because technically they are not using chemical sunscreens. They are using unregulated chemical sunscreens.

Clinique Super City Block -discontinued.
mybeautifuloak · 09/04/2023 12:00

@DanglingMod they come under various names. You need to understand a little about chemical names to recognise. The manufactures rely on this

mybeautifuloak · 09/04/2023 12:05

I just bought the Avene Eau Thermale spf50 and it ticks many boxes
This is a hybrid chemical and mineral sunscreen also

DanglingMod · 09/04/2023 12:06

Thanks for the info. I'm obviously not allergic to those as no crying/streaming eyes with either the Avene or the City Block 40, compared to the new City Block or other chemical sunscreens 👍

It's good to find ones that work for you

Oh no!
I just ordered this one to try this morning in desperation. It was on offer so it tempted me to try it. I figured if it was awful then I haven’t wasted too much money.

Maybe it will actually work then? I had no clue Super city block was a mix, they really do bamboozle you!

Fingers crossed, OP!

Yourearealboy · 09/04/2023 18:12

@DanglingMod Is it really dark? Sounds like it might be another waste of money then.
Super city block was the perfect colour.

That’s a bit pricey for me. @Jedstre

I think I’m going to have to cancel my order, thanks for showing me the colour @DanglingMod it’s way too dark when I’m so fair. Back to the drawing board.

OP posts:
DanglingMod · 10/04/2023 23:23

No worries. If you're any paler than me, it'll definitely be too dark.
I'm mixing it in with a white primer to take away the depth.

yellowsun · 10/04/2023 23:48

I had never tried the Clinique one but sounds like it would have suited!

I like the Paula’s choice tinted SPF30. I’d rather it was a 50 though. I am fair and it suits me. I use this mostly. It is pricey but often can find offers for money off by shopping around .

I have the Australian gold one which is a little darker but not as dark as the Avene one (which I’ve tried) and fine. I don’t like the feel of it on my skin as much.

I find the Ultra Violette lean screen one not as good coverage wise and a bit more dewy, despite being advertised as being matte.

I might try the Dr Sam one.

ChiefWiggumsBoy · 11/04/2023 03:49

No idea if it compares but the Nivea facial sunscreen is good. About £8 and not sticky or claggy and doesn't sting my eyes!

GenAndWine · 11/04/2023 09:51

The inky do one I’ve been considering trying. Has anyone given it a go before I buy?
