Is this a real Miller Harris perfume?

Amrapaali · 24/05/2022 22:45

It's called Found at Dusk. Snapped up a 100ml bottle at TKMaxx. It normally retails at £125 apparently.

I was feeling quite smug until I tried it on. This is a nothing fragrance! Very weak like a cheap watered down body mist. No silage. Staying power was half an hour if that.

Wise perfumistas of MN: do you know if this a real Miller Harris perfume? Or have I been duped? Or do Miller Harris make stuff specifically for outlets like TKMaxx?

I can't find anything online about Found at Dusk. There are a few reviews on Fragrantica and Basenotes that's it.

I don't know that particular perfume, but I did order quite a few testers and found them all to be revolting......... they all had the same base of an old ladies fur coat that had been stored in a musty cupboard for 40 years and it still had the linger of her perfume on. Thankfully the awful stench didn't last long................. I did think the silage was incredibly poor given the cost.

Possibly the worst perfumes I've ever smelled!

QueenOfHiraeth · 24/05/2022 23:15

I love the Miller Harris perfumes I got from TKMaxx. I get lots of compliments on the two I bought, Tea Tonique and Rose Silence, so it's disappointing that yours has not been as good

Neverendingdust · 24/05/2022 23:21

Miller Harris must make some lines for TKs because they’re products are in there so often. Having said that I’ve had a few of their fragrances and they are gorgeous. Whenever I wore one specifically (forgotten the name of it) I was always asked what is that you have on.

Found at Dusk is apparently a new release from 2021…

Supersimkin2 · 24/05/2022 23:24

Yes, it’s real but real doesn’t mean nice.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 25/05/2022 00:18

My favourite Miller Harris perfume (L’Air de Rien) smells exactly as @Badger1970 describes 😂

Supersimkin2 · 25/05/2022 09:49

It smells of libraries, which is why it’s my fave too 😄I’ve bought it in Space NK £125 and in TK maxx £40 and both scents were identically antique.

SavoySteam · 25/05/2022 10:15

Yes, it's genuine. I got it some time ago as I love green scents, so it is perfect for me, but it is not something that would appeal to wide audience as it does not smell like a perfume and more like an experience - like pressing your head into blackcurrant bush after rain, with all the earthiness, greenness and wetness. Maybe that's why it is already discontinued.

Rot · 25/05/2022 10:19

Sillage

I wouldn't normally be that poster, but to speak of 'silage' in a thread about perfume is just asking for trouble...

ArabeI · 25/05/2022 10:22

Is it Miller Harris discontinued scents TK Maxx is selling? I'd heard they were selling Noix de Tubereuse a couple of years ago, though I still had a full bottle so didn't check.

Someone bought me a bottle of Lumiere Doree, I think was a TK Maxx bargain, but I didn't much like that and gave it away (I'm always giving away perfume!)

ChiswickFlo · 25/05/2022 10:27

They are pretty weak by perfume standards

Argh this place is bad for my bank balance....just looked online at TKMAxx and they've got Craft & Glamour for 39.99. I looked it up on the Miller & Harris site and it looks perfect for the kind of thing I like.....also bought my daughter a Harry Potter jigsaw for her birthday to ease the guilt Grin

Agree!

Amrapaali · 25/05/2022 12:26

Thanks everyone for your replies! And thanks to @Rot as well 😄Even as I wrote "silage" I knew it looked wrong!

Yes the Found at Dusk was just £19.99- I HAVE bought MH perfumes from TK Maxx before and never been disappointed. My first one was many many years ago- Fleurs du Bois. An amazing scent the likes of which I have never smelled since.

NExt one was Fleurs du Matin (dewy and green like fresh cut grass) and Poirier D'Un Soir (bit sweet but not cloyingly so. Not my style but was still ok with it). All blind buys and all within the £20-£30 range so definitely good bargains.

But this one- jeez I don't even know if I love it or loathe it. It hasn't stayed on my skin long enough to even form an opinion. Should I wait for warmer days to spray it on again? Maybe heat brings out its beauty? A very weird perfume And not something I would expect from Miller Harris.

ON the plus side, I got a sample set from Rook Perfumes and their scents are rocking!! So I still got my perfume fix.

EufyProsser · 25/05/2022 12:31

Oh, I got that one too! It's so faint, like spritzing yourself with a weak gin and tonic. It's one of those barely-there fragrances for spraying after a late afternoon summer's day shower/bath, when you just want to feel fresh but you're not going out again so there's no one to get the benefit of an expensive fragrance.

That's quite a niche market for perfume, I know. Space NK's Laughter was also good for that.

EufyProsser · 25/05/2022 12:31

Anyone had Craft and Glamour? Is it nice?

Amrapaali · 25/05/2022 12:32

Thanks for that @SavoySteam good to know it's a genuine one from the MH house. See I did not get any of that earthiness or greenness you described. Just a weak, insipid hit of something perfumey. And then poof! nothing.

Speaking of earthiness the Rook Undergrowth was quite stunning! Also the Nue's Forest Lungs- utterly utterly gorgeous! If anyone is on the hunt for a new scent 😬

Cheers @EufyProsser yep looks like I need to wait for summer to break out Found at Dusk again. Sorry cant help you with the C&G

@EufyProsser I blind bought Craft and Glamour from TK Maxx. I have quite a few Miller Harris perfumes. From the description I was hoping it was going to be a bit like L´Air de Rien, which is my fave of hers, but it´s sweeter, more similar to Poirier D´un Soir. I like it for summer and I´ve had a few compliments when I´ve worn it. Has fairly good staying power on me too.

In answer to the OP´s question, I´m pretty sure the perfumes at TK Maxx are genuine. I have Feuilles de Tabac which smells exactly the same as the one my mate bought directly from the Miller Harris website.

Plumpciousness · 25/05/2022 17:59

Craft & Glamour: I saw it in the Royal Opera House shop (it's a collaboration with them) and liked the scent but the tester bottle was empty so I couldn't spray it on myself. Now very tempted to take a chance and get it from TKMaxx. Thanks for the heads up @AmethystMoonShine!

Blossomtoes · 25/05/2022 18:17

I think the TK Maxx products are genuine but MH perfumes generally are insipid. The exception was Rose en Noir which I love. Naturally they discontinued it almost immediately.

AmethystMoonShine · 25/05/2022 18:27

@Plumpciousness you're welcome. Good to know you liked it. I read about the collaboration with the Royal Opera House a liked the inspiration behind the scent.

LadyPoison · 25/05/2022 19:31

I really miss their Figue Amere. I used to love that one

Yes , an absence of silage in a perfume is absolutely a good thing !

TizerorFizz · 25/05/2022 22:49

None of you seem to buy the good MH perfumes. I like mine. Noix de Tubereuse, Lumiere Doree and Coeur de Jardin are great. Need to find Noix at a good price now.

TKM had it about a year ago for £40. I bought it blind, used it once and ebayed it. I made a profit on it.
