Help me style my menopausal figure size 14-16 😢

I'm really struggling with my weight can and body shape thanks to peri menopause. My waiste is alot bigger as are my arms and boobs. I would say I'm size 14 but this is beginning to feel snug and I'm not a trim 14. I just don't know how or where to shop for my figure and age (40). If I was 16 plus I could fo for the larger styles in new look like Curve but im sort of in between. Finding jeans is the worst because I feel like I'm bulging in them. I can't find a nice comfy, stylish pair. Anyone else in this situation?

Have you looked at M and S Lily and Sienna jeans? They are stretchy and comfy, and I am told not terribly unstylish.

Roman Originals has got some surprisingly good stuff and a lot of it is very flattering (or maybe I'm just getting old?!)

Juniper68 · 21/05/2022 21:44

I agree with m&s jeans. I just bought a pair and they have some give.
I'm trying to lose my belly as it's definitely bigger with hormonal imbalance. I'm on hrt but it hasn't helped my figure.
I also like Roman.
Try lots on and maybe take a trusted friend to help you decide?
Also a friend I used to work with wore suck me in lingerie. She looked amazing. I have a long torso and they never work for me, sadly.

Do you want to loose weight ? I was blaming my tummy and thick waist on peri-m but I've been dieting and I've managed to loose loads off my waist. It's quite shocking really what difference a few KG really makes.

Personally I find M&S jeans a bit thin and they stretch out too much. Sorry not much help.

MrOllivander · 21/05/2022 21:53

M&S magic jeans are great, sort of a powerful stretch type

Hi @Meltinthemiddle I am a similar age and size to you and have found more and more that trousers are a more flattering option than jeans now. I have a pair cropped straight jeans from Whistles that are as close to being flattering in a traditional type jean and I bought some flared ones from Other Stories which are nice but mostly probably because they are like wide legged trousers.

Separately and I know this isn't what you asked but has been really impactful for me. On the advice of a gynaecologist I've given up eating wheat which has massively helped reduce the bloating and stopped the weight gain (fingers crossed!). I didn't know before but your digestion is very much affected by your progesterone levels which is why your, shall we call it motility(!), can fluctuate throughout the month and when your levels drop in peri menopause it causes your digestion to slow down further. It only took a few weeks for me to notice the difference but if it's really bothering you could be worth a try too?

Thank you I will take a look. Definitely hormones as always had a slimmer waist. However I will be joining the gym to try and shift but I just need to have sort out my clothes as hate going out now. I see women bigger then me looking so stylish and yet can find nothing for my size with a flattering cut.

Aw don't stop going out. There's some lovely stuff you just need to take time and look.
I've started cutting down and snacking healthier.

Do you have a good bra shop? We have an amazing one near me. A good bra makes a difference too.

Nannyamc · 21/05/2022 23:14

Try robell very forgiving. Not mad expensive but loads of styles.

Next lift slim and shape jeans are my favourite. I have straight leg, bootcut and croppped.

Imtoooldforallthis · 22/05/2022 08:07

I'm exactly the same as you, although slightly older, you just have to look round. I agree with the next jeans I have the bootcut and they are very flattering. My go to is also pleather leggings a good quality satin cami and a blazer. Lots of pull on dresses for summer. I also bought this top from peocock of all places but I really love it, especially with those jeans.
