I have short chunky legs - is a midi dress completely out?

I can't find many maxi dresses this year, all 'midis' which crop my chunky thighs at their widest part and generally look terrible!
Shall I just accept that they're not for me, and wait til maxi are back in fashion? Or is there some secret to not making them look awful on shorter, fatter legged people. I'm only a size 10 but my legs aren't at all willowy..

Me too and yes, they’re out. Sick of midi midi midi. Not a good length on me. I’m a 8/10 with unwillowy legs and they just make me look dumpy.

Same here! So annoying when a dress fits beautifully but your legs look like a couple of fat sausages at the bottom! There are quite a few hanky hem dresses about that soften the line www.roman.co.uk/contrast-print-hanky-hem-dress-14059509

Where did knee length go (or just above)? It’s ideal for me.

In my day midi dresses were mid-calf, but it seems midi now means mid-thigh, which is not a good look on anyone.
Best length for me for skirts or dresses (not that I wear them much) is about 10cm above my ankles. It is all about proportion. I taken them up or have them taken up if required.
IMHO knee-length or on the knee never suits anyone.

miaow

thanks for that

Just above the knee used to work great for me that now I'm in the wrong end of my thirties, I feel drawn to longer. Maxi is my only option, if only it existed still!

Wait, midi is now mid thigh? That's mini surely?

LaCerbiatta · 21/05/2022 10:40

Midi is mid thigh? Midi is md calf, no? Mid thigh is mini..

Amdone123 · 21/05/2022 10:48

@Needaholidayplease , just been looking at Silk Fred, they have some lovely maxi dresses.
I don't like midi either, they do nothing for me. I prefer above knee.

Fizbosshoes · 21/05/2022 10:53

I am short and size 8 but my legs are chunky. I thought midi was mid calf ?? (which I think is unflattering on lots of people!) It's definitely very unflattering for me although because I'm short most midi dresses are actually maxi for me anyway.

Just above the knee, or maxi is more flattering for me, depending on shoes. (I wouldn't be brave enough for mid thigh)

pictish · 21/05/2022 11:18

I only know midi as mid-calf. Mid-thigh is mini surely? Although there is mini and MINI (micro-mini?).

I have done mid-thigh with thick opaque tights covering all. Not for getting the thighs out otherwise.

stickygotstuck · 21/05/2022 11:22

Well I think midi (mid calf) dresses look nice on just about everyone.

But then I have legs like tree trunks and I rather like them, so what do I know!

I see maxi dresses everywhere this year
