What to wear in Ibiza in my 40s!!!

Ijustwanttochill · 21/05/2022 08:14

Going to Ibiza with girlfriends in the summer, we are doing a mix of clubbing and chilling/dinners etc. I am in my 40s, definitely have the mind of a 21 year old but not quite the body of one anymore! I am average size, definitely not thin! Can anyone suggest any outfits/shoes etc that they have worn for similar holidays? Or they are getting for a holiday this summer? Happy to get my legs out, maybe not so much my stomach 🙈

I’m 46 and going to Ibiza with my friend in June. I’ve actually dug out lots of my old 00s Ibiza outfits just as I don’t want to buy anything new and it’s all back in fashion - sort of!
I’ve got a vintage maxi dress in an aqua colour I’ll take with a gold chain belt, and a couple of short dresses - one is a kind of military dress with sequins from sass and bide years ago (not even sure the label exists anymore!) and one is a bright colour dvf dress I had shortened to be way too short but is fine for
ibiza. I’ve got gold platforms to take and will
probably wear with all as am hand luggage only.
I might also take a black Zara dress I’ve got with cut outs that was cheap but looks nice dressed up with expensive jewellery and shoes and will be nice for dinner in Ibiza town.
I’ve not been on a proper party one to Ibiza though for about 12 years (been for a few weddings and in a villa with kids) so I might have got it totally wrong! But I think you can wear what you want and defo heels and legs out and lots of jewellery! Do you know where you’ll be going?

presuming you’re not staying in San Antonio then Ibiza outfits for adult non-ravers are all about being chic and classy - lots of nude linens, creams, can go for mini skirts and a bit more skin than usual but if you go for natural fabrics and neutral colours you’ll fit in at all the nice lunch spots. Or cool coloured patterns and details fine too just try to stick to cottons and linens.

I love dresses from Devotion Twins

Monsoon/accessorize often do them in a similar style for a fraction of the price if you like the style but not the cost

For colourful example see model’s outfit in this - pair with flat platform slides or sandals in black or nude - www.net-a-porter.com/en-gb/shop/product/farm-rio/clothing/cropped/tie-front-printed-fil-coupe-cotton-top/38063312420568532

I have an old photo of me at a big club in Ibiza years ago wearing a little mini, a black & white cami top, & some beaded flip flops.
I used to dance all night in those flip flops!!

If I was slim now I'd probably wear a similar outfit to go to a club there...

Interestingly I went to a bar / club recently in the south of England which hosts djs playing rnb, hip hop etc, the dress code was no trainers no hoodies.
Lots of clubs in my town have similar dress codes.

Ibiza is different; it's kind of anything goes, but trainers are too hot & not glam enough really.

I used to find hair my biggest annoyance as Ibiza can be quite humid so it would just go frizzy whatever I did. Plus I would get heat rash!! Lovely.

Hoolihan · 21/05/2022 20:06

It depends where you're going. Lots of Ibiza restaurants are kind of boho glam - so maxi dress, lots of jewellery, sandals. Or shorts with a frilly blouse and strappy heels. Bikini, crochet beach dress and gold hoop earrings for the chiringuitos. Oh I love Ibiza!!

In my day we would go to a club with a dress code! All the shit meat market places had dress codes. It was trainers and hoodies all the way! But we went to raves and dnb clubs, always found rnb scene a bit poncy! Trainers are much more appropriate dancing footwear. You are effectively exercising for about 7-8 hours straight!

Ijustwanttochill · 22/05/2022 09:24

Thanks ladies! We are staying near the old town, and will be going to one of the clubs nearby, can't remember what it is called! And then going to Ocean Beach a couple of times! Apart from that it will be dinners/beach time!

Resurrecting this thread as I am off to Ibiza this summer for a friend’s 50th. Going to one of the big clubs, and bars and restaurants on the other nights. I’m 49 and a size 18 😩. Trying to lose weight but not going to be smaller than a 16 by then. Never been on a girls holiday before. Would describe my style as ‘sale at Fatface’. Absolutely love music and I’ve seen loads of dance acts live. Not a bad mover for my age so want to fully enjoy that side of the holiday. What can I wear to look age appropriate but not frumpy? Really need some help!

Meltel · 11/04/2023 16:24

Same! I am going with girls about 10 years younger who are v trendy haha i have no idea what i am going to wear. I am 40 and have just had a baby and my boobs are giant currently a kk!! I am thinking a long colourful maxi dress with a nice gold belt and a nice pair of comfy birkenstocks will go a long way. Also bear with me on this but a statement hat looks really glam and could look cool with a swimsuit for day times along with a generous cover up. Look at stacy solomons insta her hat is amazing and she got it in a charity shop. I don’t suit shorts but some paperbag shorts with sandals and a tight top would look nice too. Really looking forward to it but just haven’t a clue what to wear. Going to David Guetta at Ushiaia and ob club! X

I hope you had a wonderful time in Ibiza and felt completely gorgeous! I’m in a similar boat to what describe. Sadly, strapless tops and minis are not going to work for me and as for bikinis with a sheer slip dress over the top, no one needs to see me in that! Do you have any wisdom to share on what to pack? Xx

I would have a look at Pitusa, love their stuff and feels very Ibiza to me: https://www.pitusa.co/collections/best-sellers

I went last year, lived in denim shorts or short skirts and vest tops during the day, something that I could chuck on over my bikini. Nights out in restaurants were maxi dresses. If I had managed to go clubbing (I went for a disco nap and failed to wake up)I had planned to wear a short skirt or shorts and top. Didn't put heels on once, I wore flat sandals (gladiator or nice jeweled ones) or converse.

Anything goes in all fairness. Just don't overthink or try too hard, you'll be uncomfortable if it isn't you.

caelbaas · 27/06/2023 06:01

Thank you @Yetisrus that all sounds great - and the kind of things that I will actually keep wearing in the UK too. Sadly I don’t think a mesh dress would get much of an airing on the school run!

caelbaas · 27/06/2023 06:02

PS what you said about disco nap make me laugh, I can identify!

Ibizachic · 07/12/2024 14:15

Hey! For shoes, I’d definitely recommend checking out Mr. CH Label. They have this chic Ibiza vibe, and their shoes are super comfortable—perfect for long nights out clubbing and stylish dinners. I’ve worn them, and they’re a dream!
As for outfits, since you’re open to showing off your legs, maybe go for flowy mini dresses or wrap dresses—they’re flattering and great for keeping cool in the summer heat. Pair them with espadrille wedges or strappy sandals for dinners, and maybe some comfy sneakers or flat sandals for exploring during the day.
For clubbing, a cute romper or a breezy jumpsuit with some glam accessories would be perfect. Add a lightweight kimono or cropped jacket to layer up if it gets chilly. You’ll look amazing, and comfort is key—sounds like such a fun trip! ☀️🎉
