What do people wear to christenings these days?

We've got one to go to in a month. They're regular church goers (rather than people who are just attending for the christening/party, as we did!). Only mentioning that as I wonder if they'll see it as less of a photo opportunity as they go weekly and therefore won't be a dressed up.

I've got a navy jumpsuit-might that work? I'm in my mid 40s, 5ft 2 and a size 10/12.

I think that would work. Don't buy anything special. Wear something comfortable but that looks like you e made a bit of an effort!

Was thinking jumpsuit.What shoes,bag. I'm thinking a lighter colour.

It's tricky isn't it, the timings look like it's going to be part of a normal Sunday service too so I don't want to stick out like a sore thumb! I might just get a little jacket to go with the jumpsuit.

Crazykefir I've got navy heels, I don't want to buy new shoes so I'd stick with those I think. Maybe get a bag to match the jacket.

And the men? DH has just bought a new suit for a wedding.

Yes op. a bag that you'll use again.
Are you into make up. Contrasting nails and lips?

Navy jumpsuit with jacket sounds perfect. Smart without being wedding formal is what I aim for at christenings.

When my DGS was christened I wore a pretty dress and I felt overdressed as most people wore one casual stuff. One of the babies entire family turned up in jeans

As a churchgoer I see a few christenings and I'd say it varies a bit, in line with the fact that some people dress up naturally and others are natural wearers of jeans to church. It may depend slightly what the plan is after the service. A posh sit down meal in a hotel is going to be different to sausage rolls and crisps in the village hall. But, a navy jumpsuit sounds perfect to me, and similar to what I saw at a christening a couple of weeks ago, although maybe if it's quite dark you could brighten it with some jewellery or accessories?
