What's the best volumising mascara you've used?

Over the past couple of years i've spent/wasted a small fortune trying to find a decent volumising mascara. I'm fed up with them flaking, smudging, offering no volume whatsoever etc.
I'm no contemplating moving to a more expensive brand and have been looking at Lancome Hypnose.
Can anyone suggest a decent voluming mascara but that doesn't have a huge brush (my lashes are short and the big brushes don't work for me).
Thanks in advance.

Have you ever tried Faux Cils by YSL? I don't think the brush is huge but it's not tiny either.

Kevin Aucoin has a very small brush & it's a tubing mascara, I use it most days but the Faux Cils is more dramatically volumising.

This one. I bought it after seeing it recommended in three beauty columns on the same day and it didn’t disappoint. It’s a tenner well spent.

I spent many years buying lots and lots of different mascaras. Now I only buy Lancôme. Cheaper in the long run. They are excellent.

Another vote for YSL Faux Cils - have literally tried hundreds and nothing comes close to this for volume

2000 calorie by max factor

skippy67 · 20/05/2022 14:38

Max Factor 2000 calorie is very very good.

Max Factor 2000 calorie is very very good.

It is. I used it for over 20 years but the Maybelline one is much better. I just wish they made it in other colours. I still use 2000 Calorie when I want navy.

Sqeebling · 20/05/2022 15:15

I used Max Factor 2000 calories for what seemed like decades too but now I just use anything that comes my way as I use eyelash curlers and most mascaras have those lengthening filaments in them.

Collection Lash Surge, amazing and under a fiver. I've tried them all and this is my favourite.

Dior Pump and Volume.
Holy grail for volumising.
Second place goes to Lancome Mr. Big.

A poster on here once recommended this:

I have never looked back. It's vegan too I think and this site often does 3 for 2

Another vote for Lancôme, worth every penny in my opinion

DarkDarkNight · 20/05/2022 22:03

I love Lancôme too. Hypnose Drama would be my choice. The brush isn’t tiny, but is curvy so might work. I find mascaras like Monsieur Big a bit too much.

MissPocket · 20/05/2022 22:07

I use Benefit They're Real which is good and quite a small brush too.

Shufflebumnessie · 21/05/2022 11:08

Thanks so much for all the suggestions. Max Factor 2000 calorie has been my go to mascara for the past 20 years but the past few tubes have been very clumpy and dry. Not sure if the formula has been changed, or if it was a bad batch.
I've tried a few by Maybelline and always been disappointed.
I read all the hype about the Lash Essence but found it didn't give any volume and flaked terribly within an hour of application.
I'm leaning towards trying a higher end brand just to see if they're worth the price tag. Thanks for all the replies and suggestions.

If your mascara goes clumpy or dry simply add one or two drops of a facial oil (pixi rose oil is great).

It real does give the mascara a new lease of life.

You can use any facial oil.
