The perfect t-shirt

Is difficult to find. Ideally I want a boat neck style (flattering for the large chested!), long enough to hide Mum tum and the sort of quality that doesn't make me want to throw it away after 3 washes. The one pictured below from Next is actually ideal but they don't do a plain version and I'm not really feeling the sequins. Any ideas?

Agree with PP on the Next cap sleeve t shirts. I've got them in white, grey, navy and a lighter blue. They do come up large. I'm normally a 12/14 top (34FF bust) but bought these in a 10.

Did you mean to quote someone else? 😁

Yes! I meant this link

Size up in Morrisons own brand - Nutmeg pack of 2 tshirts. Normally just black and white 2 for £12 . Long length, shaped, loose v neck and wash fab.. swear by them . Great fit if i size up, very cimfy and flattering..

toastfiend · 20/05/2022 19:30

I like the H&M £3.99 cotton t-shirts. They wash well, fit nicely and are quite flattering (I think, anyway). I hate how high on the neck and shoulders most other t-shirts are, but these have a wider, more relaxed neckline and a looser fit so you can half tuck them. They're not too thick, either, so sit nicely and don't look bulky.

Otherwise, Hush do similar styles to the one in your link if you don't mind a bit more pricey. They're not usually plain, though.

Great. I will try the Next £7.50 version. I wasn't sure because they are 100% cotton so tend to shrink in the wash (despite me washing everything at 30).

I had the Boden one but it ended up like a crop top after a few washes. Maybe it's my washing machine which is the problem Smile

I have a few of the Next £7.50 ones, they wash well.

@SandrasAnnoyingFriend it looks an absolute mess after she cuts it up.

COS t-shirts are usually fantastic quality. I bought this last year and it's incredibly flattering and washes like a dream:

Mango does great t shirts in different colours

LunaTheCat · 20/05/2022 23:15

I like exactly the type of t-shirts that you do - also have large breasts!
About 4 years ago I bought one from The White Company on sale - still going strong!

LunaTheCat · 20/05/2022 23:21

Just looked up the next one with stars .. it’s bloody 50% polyester 😡

jeaux90 · 27/05/2022 17:57

@museumum thank you for introducing me to Bam. I just took delivery of a couple of their tops, so so soft and lovely

JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon · 27/05/2022 18:04

Following because I am looking for the same.

I have just bought a couple of v-neck ones from Fat Face, got them on the cheap, if I like them I might pay full price the the boat neck one!

OrangeBall · 27/05/2022 18:19

I love the cotton traders T shirts

Long enough to hide mum tum and a good neck line (though not like the opening picture!)

OrangeBall · 27/05/2022 18:22

I don't like boat neck tops but here is their range

I have the normal round necks from here and they are great. Long enough and not a bad price

OrangeBall · 27/05/2022 18:23

I have a few of the crew neck t shirts and live in them!

PattyMelt · 27/05/2022 18:29

My best tee shirts are from Lands end. Supima cotton, crew neck or V neck solid colours (v isn't too low)
They make linen blend and others but I like the cotton best.

thepoowhispererswife · 27/05/2022 20:13

I got some of these from Uniqlo a couple of weeks ago - think these are what you are looking for x

OwlsDance · 27/05/2022 22:46

I've bought one of those Next cap sleeve ones, they are great! Will be getting some more. Great quality thick cotton.

As an aside, you're much better off doing a half tuck to disguise a tum rather than covering it with a large t-shirt. Also, if you get a nice big pendant that hangs just over your boobs, it will make your bust look smaller, so you could wear even a crew or even a turtle neck.

OwlsDance · 27/05/2022 22:49

Oh and meant to say I tried on the one you linked in your OP with a star, but the fabric is too soft and kind of hangs a bit weird. It lacks structure so I didn't like it, but might suit someone who likes more slouchy stuff.

Honorata45 · 27/05/2022 22:50

Good old M&S for me. Though of late I found their round necks too tight so go for v ones. I also alter (by hand) the round necks to make them deeper but it’s a bit of a fag.

Nailest · 28/05/2022 00:37

I have these from Amazon in grey, black and white. Haven’t washed them yet but I really like them so far - decent quality material so they hang well without being too clingy, and not see through.

So glad I found this thread. Thank you for starting it.

Some t shirts here that I think I could wear without feeling self conscious as I'm too on the larger of chest size.

I had a waterfall style t shirt with a scoop type neck from Designers at Debenhams (back in the day) that hung beautifully. It was worn till it fell to pieces! The extra fabric in that type of waterfall style disguises any lumps and bumps nicely.

silentpool · 28/05/2022 01:27

Their teeshirts are not cheap but I wear them all the time and the first set I bought are 18 months old and still going. On a cost per wear basis, I'm probably ahead vs fast fashion.

They make them to fit you and they make mine longer so they are the perfect length. They've made other adjustments to the shoulders etc. I usually get a boat neck style. If there are ever fit issues, they fix them for you.

Agree with this.

I have channelled my late mother and said "quality not quantity" this year, after sorting through my t-shirt drawer. (And realising i have about 20 white t shirts that were as cheap as chips (H&M, Primark, M&S basics etc) but which after one summer are only fit for wearing under a jumper.
Bought from Cos, Arket and M&S Autograph this year and am chuffed to bits.

For the first time ever in a plain black t shirt (the Cos A-line one- so flattering on) 3 people have asked where it's from. I've gone back and bought it in each colour.

Boden t shirt quality is laughable for the price. I only buy in the sale from them but even at sale prices the fabric quality is awful. Ditto Mint Velvet, Hush and any other highly promoted on MN brands.
