Birkenstock sizing (Gizeh)

I'm looking to order some new Birkenstocks and looked up ancient orders to see what size I've had before. I was surprised to see it was size 39 (twice) as I'm a 6.5 - 7 and Birkenstock has 39 down as 5.5...I don't remember ever wearing a 5.5, at least not since my early teens!

Have my feet just got bigger since having two kids (quite possible!) Or is the Birkenstock sizing a bit off?!

Have you tried this?
I would say 39 is more 6.5/7 too

paradyning · 19/05/2022 21:19

Oh ffs. There's a measurement tool linked on that site link. Won't let me copy.

Barrawarra · 19/05/2022 21:20

I’m a 40 and am 7.5

Agree I'm 41 and an 8

Madcats · 19/05/2022 21:25

My elderly Birks were 38 for a 5UK

LaCerbiatta · 19/05/2022 21:30

I'm a 6.5 - 7 and my gizehs are a 38

Swonderful · 19/05/2022 21:33

Just to throw a spanner in the works, I'm 6.5 -7 and I wear a 40.

ayegazumba · 19/05/2022 21:41

I am usually a 7 but I know birks come up big so ordered a 39 and 40 which both arrived today and I'm a 39 in them. So sounds like you're the same as me, ignore the 5.5 thing. One year my husband bought be a 40 for my birthday, put them straight on, went out, they were too big and it made it uncomfortable so they've never been worn since. Definitely

paradyning · 19/05/2022 21:43

Just make sure you have the few mm gap around the toes and heel area. If your toes butt up against the rim, or heel then they are too small.

I'm a 6 in converse and and 6.5 in a pair of Adidas trainers I own. I wear a 7 in ballet flats or high heels. Just for context.

I've got multiple pairs of birks and they are all a 39. I reckon a 39 is about a 6.5.

CatLadyDrinksGin · 19/05/2022 22:49

I’m a wide 7 and wear a 40 in birks- agree you need a gap which people often don’t leave.

itsnotmeitsu · 19/05/2022 23:04

I ordered some Birkenstocks for going on holiday in March. I ordered 38 because that's my usual size. The sandals were a bit large for me. I ordered a couple of other pairs in a size 37 and they were a much better fit for me. I did this because the Birkenstocks had a measuring thing on their soles which showed how to work out what size/width would work. It's like the shoe measuring thing that used to happen in a shop when you were a child - and it's so useful.

CorsicaDreaming · 19/05/2022 23:13

I wear Birkenstocks 39 and am 5.5-6 size shoes

Nat6999 · 19/05/2022 23:46

My Gizeh are a size 38, I take sizes 4 - 4.5 depending on what brand shoes I buy, my Madrid however are a size 37.

GettingStuffed · 20/05/2022 07:53

I normally wear a 6 but all my gizehs have been a 5

BammBamm · 20/05/2022 07:56

To confuse things, I'm a 5.5 to 6 but had to get a 40 as my toes are just so bloody long.

onemouseplace · 20/05/2022 07:58

I’m a 5.5 - 6 and my Gizehs were a 38 and I now have Arizonas which are a 39 and a bit big when my feet are cold, but fine when they swell up a bit in the heat.

SlipperyLizard · 20/05/2022 08:02

I’m a 6.5-7 and my gizehs are a 40 - I sent the 39 back. I remember being very confused when ordering! Wish there were more shops that stock decent colours.

Jins · 20/05/2022 08:02

I’m a size 4 but a 36 is just fine in gizehs. I think a lot depends on the length of your toes for that style

purplesequins · 20/05/2022 08:15

depends a lot how long your toes are.

I'm a 6-7 with short toes and wear birkenstock size 39. bigger size would have the toe footbed ridge in an uncomfortable position.

friend with size 5 feet but long toes also wear birkenstock size 39.

LaCerbiatta · 20/05/2022 09:46

If I left a gap then my toes wouldn't mold to the bed of the sandal. This is how my size 38 gizehs look on my size 7 (40) feet

LaCerbiatta · 20/05/2022 09:46

Trying again

Birkenstock sizing (Gizeh)
LaCerbiatta · 20/05/2022 09:48

But then I think here people leave too much space on sandals, they all look too big to me. Just made that comment on the other sandals thread.

yikesanotherbooboo · 20/05/2022 10:46

I am a 6.5 usually but my Birkenstocks are size 40 as I am clumsy and don't want to stub my toes.
V comfortable.
