Can’t believe how much better I feel after making an effort.

For the first time in my life I’ve been eating healthily, not gone on a silly fad diet or cut out certain types of food, not even counted calories but just eating nice healthy food, salads, protein, some carbs and lots of fruit and veg. I’ve stopped having sugar and milk in my coffee and not eaten any chocolate or junk food for two weeks.

I’ve lost 10 pound! I bought a treadmill and have gone on it for 45 minutes every other day (it’s the only exercise I can tolerate!) and today when my kids were at school and pre school I sat down and gave my self a pedicure. I feel so much better.

I know it’s only been a couple of weeks but even if I hadn't lost any weight I would still want to eat and exercise like this because I feel much better and my energy levels are more stable. I usually get quite hyper in the mornings then crash out in the afternoon before the school run but this hasn’t happened since I started.

Just thought I would post this in case anyone else is thinking of spending a bit of time on themselves but can’t find the motivation.I have 8 children and I really feel like they are reaping the benefits too. I’m less tired/snappy and I feel like now I’ve taken this step everything else is falling into place.

This is actually very inspiring! Pls share what you’ve been eating. I struggle to eat ‘normally’.

JillPole123 · 18/05/2022 13:33

Thanks for posting - also inspired!

Basilbrushgotfat · 18/05/2022 13:34

That's wonderful op!

What do you tend to have for breakfast? Looking for ideas

BeetyAxe · 18/05/2022 13:46

Good for you! I’m glad you feel happier, you’ve done really well.

For breakfast I have been switching between:

greek yogurt with chopped bananas and strawberries with some walnuts and about a tablespoon of honey on top.

smoked salmon and eggs on rye bread (could have wholemeal I suppose but rye doesn’t make me feel as bloated afterwards)

bacon, eggs, tomato and spinach.

lunches have been salads with either chicken and salmon, sometimes with Avacado and/or bacon and I always have some kind of dressing on and a few seeds.

Dinners have been mostly chick or fish again but I have had butternut squash sweet potatoes, brown rice and I think a couple of nights I’ve had cous cous. Have had a few homemade curries but have had rice or naan with them not both.

Last night I roasted a chicken and made a Greek salad with feta and the night before I made peri peri salmon with this lovely sweet potato mash with feta, chilli and coriander in which is from a Jamie Oliver book I’ve had for years.

have been adding in lots of salad/veg to every meal. I’ve had dark chocolate a couple of times but I’ve not felt cravings much tbh, and I am a serious chocoholic!

It's true it does make a huge difference. I've had several spells when I've achieved this, sometimes for long periods of time, but then I fall off the wagon and it's so hard to get back on!

Alicay · 18/05/2022 16:29

Your menu sounds lovely. Thanks for sharing. I've just put down the big bag of crisps in favour of a much healthier snack....

Pettypettypatty · 18/05/2022 16:32

Well done OP,that's amazing.

Noglassjustthebottleandastraw · 18/05/2022 16:34

Thanks for sharing op and well done on all your achievements. A lovely inspirational post.

MintyGreenDream · 18/05/2022 16:38

I feel the same after cutting most carbs out 4 weeks ago.I don't get raging hunger anymore and my ibs symptoms have nearly gone. And I've lost half a stone!

SunnyLobelia · 18/05/2022 16:40

I find this very inspiring!

Sweetmotherofallthatisholyabov · 18/05/2022 18:20

its awful isn't it. Because now you know. I'm having a Rubbish week and I know if I got my act together and ate meals instead of snacking and did some exercise and drank water and Went to bed early and stayed off my phone I'd feel better physically and mentally. So I'm self sabotaging with Pringles and mumsnet.

clarepetal · 18/05/2022 18:27

This IS very inspirational

Appleseesaw · 18/05/2022 22:13

Thank you for your post, OP. I know I need to make changes, but I feel down, make bad choices and it’s a vicious circle. You’ve done amazingly, well done.

bumpytrumpy · 18/05/2022 22:33

Your diet sounds excellent and very balanced. Small sustainable changes are key. Maybe try a few squats & press ups & plank and see if you can build a strength routine - that will definitely help you feel better and stronger

ILikeCrapTelly · 19/05/2022 07:18

This is good to read, I'm trying to do the same so it's inspiring me to continue Smile

I have young children and definitely feel like I've lost some of myself, I'm trying to make some time to get 'me' back (as corny as that sounds!)
