I feel like i've tried every hair dye in the world! They all seem to fade to orange. I just want my natural dark brown colour back! Help!

They go orange because of your base colour. You need to talk to a hairdresser

You need to pick a hair dye with Ash In the title. They go orange because the ones you're choosing are red based.

Take a look at this, stay clear of any with the numbers matching to reds, yellows and golds.

You can also try using a blue shampoo

When my hair was orange from a mahogany dye I used a John Frieda mousse dye in Ash brown. It worked for me.

5A brilliant brunette medium Ash brown. Foam dye.

No advice I'm afraid but so following it's not just you op. Had some success with Ash based dyes but still fade to orange in the end. Thought about trying to go blonde or at least lighter but the damage it could do to my hair scares me. So jealous of those who have scattered greys that can just grow in nicely, I have a full in badger stripe 😂

Bluecheck679 · 19/05/2022 13:27

Have you tried Claire nice n easy semi permanent light ash brown (comes up darker on my hair, medium ash brown was too dark). Works well for me, could also try fanola no orange shampoo in between washes.

I have this problem now I'm quite grey. I find the dark ash brown the best of a bad lot (nice and easy because it doesn't make me itch). If I find it fading too warmly I use brass off once a week to tone it down.

No problem. My hair dresser friend suggested it as Ash shades cover red shades. If you want darker you could try L'oreal castings creme gloss in 500 light brown. It isn't light. It's quite dark. When it develops it looks purple, which is a good sign. Any dye that that pulls blue or green when developing will not turn orange (for me anyway).
