Is balayage out?

I'll start by saying I've never been a huge trend follower, if I like it I like it. It's more out of curiousity!

I'm booked to have my hair done next week. I've never had a colour done professionally and have always made do with at home kits but I think it's time, although for some reason I'm scared . I've got very dark natural hair with greys creeping in, and would like to go lighter.

I'm scared of it being orange and also don't want the upkeep of roots... is balayage stuck in 2020 or can it still look good? I've attached a pic that I adore, the top is similar to my natural colour. Is this do able? Is it out of date? Help please!!

I have hair like yours and he balayage. I hated it. It went very, very orange and even adding toner didn’t help much. It also made it feel like straw which I hadn’t expected (as my hair had never been bleached before). I’d recommend asking for an ashy tone as your hair is cool coloured and you may well find it goes quite organgey.

Sorry, I didn’t see the update! It looks lovely!

@WhoopItUp that was my exact worry, and I appreciate it is a little
Orange on the photo 😅😅 but it genuinely isn't when I look at it in real life.

I've stocked up on the strong blue pigment treatments and am putting leave in conditioner after every wash.
Fingers crossed it doesn't go too warm over time!

As long you have a toner applie every 8-10wks the colour should stay fresh, otherwise use a purple shampoo every now and then. I have balayage in dark hair and that works for me. Love balayage, lifts my hair without that zebra look or straight dye line when the hair grows. Toner is about £18 in my salon- slightly cheaper than a new balayage job!!!

@PermanentlyTired03 oh amazing!!
I know he used a few different toners so the very ends were lighter... would I need to buy two?

@theshadeofgreen I have a couple of colours in my hair but just pay for the one toner wash

Balyage is great, no roots and the halo of white hair round my face is dyed blond so that is hidden too. There is no other style that covers it all and doesn't mean monthly top ups at the hairdressers.
