What jacket would you wear with this dress? (for a wedding)

Advice please for a hopeless fashion dunce. Will be wearing this dress to a wedding soon but am struggling to find a jacket to wear with it. (I'm always freezing so do need a bit of coverage...)

I love Nancy Mac's own jackets but the dress has already kinda blown the budget, so I'm looking for something much cheaper... any ideas please?

Either black or, if you can match it exactly, the cream of the print.

Mumsnut · 09/05/2022 19:21

I'd haunt e-bay for a Nacy Mac jacket or coat, and in the meantime I'd buy a green cardi and hope that the weather was too good to need it / the jacket comes through first

Pinkcadillac · 09/05/2022 19:47

Could you try the dress on with a blazer - any blazer you have at home- just to see if the shape works? If it does then I'd go for something like this www.bershka.com/gb/flowing-satin-blazer-c0p104071174.html?colorId=806

chubbachub · 09/05/2022 19:48

Ooh not black. No way. Too officey.

The dress is beautiful. I would check ebay /Vinted for the kind of jacket you really want.

Have you already bought the dress? If you type nancy mac in vinted theres loads of dresses like this in the nice green colour. And at least one jacket i can see.

womaniswomaniswoman · 09/05/2022 19:49

I would be scared any jacket would kill that lovely dress to be honest!

Definitely not black though.

chubbachub · 09/05/2022 19:50

Not sure of your size but theres a few nice nancy mac jackets going on ebay too.

Badger1970 · 09/05/2022 19:57

I think a jacket will look all kinds of wrong with such a beautiful dress.

I'd stick a thermal camisole on underneath and go for a really nice cashmere shawl in the heavy cream colour.

Sorry for the long link but something like this: www.brandalley.co.uk/17828182.html?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=Performance+Max+-+BA+UK&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_term=&utm_id=go_cmp-16580292430_adg-_ad-__dev-m_ext-_prd-17828183_mca-119667858_sig-CjwKCAjw9-KTBhBcEiwAr19ig7_ok-KXUGathj1LnElrzzzOGmOr5g3SiiGujYlXsfw6O30AmFWXeRoCPc4QAvD_BwE&gclid=CjwKCAjw9-KTBhBcEiwAr19ig7_ok-KXUGathj1LnElrzzzOGmOr5g3SiiGujYlXsfw6O30AmFWXeRoCPc4QAvD_BwE
A short boucle jacket in a light colour. They are everywhere at the moment as well so you will get use of it. Buy a good quality one and you'll have a timeless jacket for years. The dress is beautiful, just avoid black, as a PP said you'll be a confusing mix of wedding and office.

That is a beautiful dress. I couldn't put a jacket over it. I'd freeze with a game face knowing it looks fabulous.

This - this Flowers but if you do need something a sleeveless thermal cami from M&S

GeorgesMarvelousCalpol · 09/05/2022 22:00

That is a beautiful dress 👗 😍
Don't put a jacket over it, if at all possible!

Oh totally this.

Maybe a VERY thin but high tog thermal camisole underneath if it doesn't show.

Bewildermum · 09/05/2022 23:48

Thanks everyone for your suggestions.

@Mumsnut and @chubbachub yeh I'm already glued to ebay in case one of the jackets turns up, or something similar, but I'd not tried Vinted - will try that too, thanks. (I'm a size 14 by the way, haven't seen anything suitable yet but will keep looking)

@Badger1970 and others who mentioned the thermal cami idea - this is inspired! Now I'm wondering why the hell I don't already own one...off to look for one that's thin and low-cut enough. And yeh I wondered about a shawl as well so will have a look to see if i can find one in the right colour. Ivory, or maybe... pinkish? or... not? (see? Clueless).

@Pinkcadillac and @Floydthebarber - thanks for the links - I don't think either of these are quite me but I appreciate the suggestions. (I don't actually even own a blazer, because of aforementioned fashion numptiness...can I admit to that on S&B? Good idea though...)

Glad you all like the dress! Maybe I'll just stick some of those heated handwarmers down my bra and hope for the best ...

DailySheetWasher · 09/05/2022 23:53

Uniqlo Heat Tech for the thermal cami.

Zippidy123 · 10/05/2022 08:16

When's the wedding because May is going to be lovely and warm. I'd go for a cream pashmina, the dress is beautiful.

hanahsaunt · 10/05/2022 08:20

I really really want a Nancy Mac outfit for a wedding this year but haven't plucked up the courage to press go (seems wrong to order several things in several sizes and send almost all back - why does it seem fine with Boden but not this? I digress...). How do the sizes come up? I am generally an 8 and short - it's the jumpsuits I covet but fear looking ridiculous rather than elegant and willowy.

SpeckledlyHen · 10/05/2022 12:18

Just wanted to say I LOVE this dress.. Have coveted it from afar for a long time. My friend got married in a nancy mac dress and since going on the website I have seen this hydrangea dress many times. Sadly, I do not have the figure or occasion for it. You'll be the best dressed there for sure!

JemimaTiggywinkle · 10/05/2022 12:22

Lovely dress. Cream would be good, or blush pink as you suggested. What colour shoes are you wearing?

Bewildermum · 10/05/2022 14:37

@hanahsaunt I tried a couple of the dresses (was sad to send the other one back) and they both fitted very well, so I'd say they're true to size. Nothing remotely willowy about me though 🙂 (hmm, wonder if you can get thermal control pants?). Anyway - go for it!

Going to look for a pashmina as a few of you have suggested. Thanks again everyone.

hanahsaunt · 10/05/2022 14:41

@Bewildermum - oh they are both gorgeous! I am sure that you will look absolutely amazing (and I am only ever elegant and willowy in my head 😂)

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 10/05/2022 14:42

What a beautiful dress! I agree a wrap (in the cream colour) will go much better than a jacket, hopefully you won't even need it for warmth on the day.

Giveitall · 10/05/2022 14:46

I haven’t read all the thread but as soon as I saw it the dress shrieked Pashmina at me. Buy the best you can afford. It’ll look lovely.
I have lots of them & find them very useful for all occasions esp when flying if the cabin goes cool.
Have a lovely time ; you’ll look stunning,

hanahsaunt · 10/05/2022 14:46

(I haven't owned a blazer since leaving school - more of the Susan Calman 'going-out cardi' school of fashion)

17CherryTreeLane · 10/05/2022 14:51

What a beautiful dress! I'd be tempted to go for a faux fur cream stole
