What will look good on my body? Party clothes

Like many of us, I am unhappy with my body. I'm overweight but, even worse, 4 pregnancies have left me with a big tummy. I hate it.

Generally my style is cropped jeans and a nice top for going out. I love dresses but I feel I look pregnant and, at51, it's not a good look!!

Next weekend I'm going to a party and jeans will not cut it. I want to wear something glamorous and dressy but I have no idea what.

I'm 5'6", size 16-ish (sometimes 14). I'll happily spend up to £200 for the right thing but would be happier with a less expensive item (purely because I think nothing looks good on me so it's not worth the money!!)

I don't have big boobs so not Bombshell-type dresses.

Any ideas please?

Could you wear smart jeans and a long fancy top? Then add earrings/necklace and manicured nails.

I don't know if my advice is helpful, but it at least bumps your thread :)

I would go for either a wrap dress or cropped jumpsuit

I have a c-section 'shelf' and average boobs, am 49 and these tend to suit me best for a non-jeans option

What's your colouring, do you have favourite colours you know you look good in? I would maybe start with SilkFred and see if there is anything on there you like

Have a look on the AMA board, there's a lovely personal stylist who has been helping with suggestions for outfits etc.

I'm the same size, shape and age as you. And I've just bought this dress from oasis.

It's very flattering and a total bargain.

Thanks all

@duvetdayforeveryone This is my go-to look and I can definitely fall back on it if I don't feel nice in anything else

@jackstini A jumpsuit is a good idea and silk Fred is a good shout. I've had some successes with them

@smurfmonkey Interesting, good to know

@BerylFeatures Looks lovely

Have a look at Never Fully Dressed, it's not everybody's cup of tea but the party dresses are fun

www.neverfullydressed.co.uk/products/pink-and-red-lila-oversized-shirt

www.neverfullydressed.co.uk/products/black-carrie-dress comes in green and red/pink

Pretty Kitty dresses are really flatttering, wrap front swishy skirt ones are made to skim over a tummy but make your waist look smaller than it is. And they are comfortable, with fabric thick enough to hang nicely. I've got this one in a black pattern, and get loads of compliments every time I wear it. It looks nice with heels, but I have also worn it with trainers and a denim jacket for less dressy events.

They also show photos of what the dress looks like on customers, gives yu an idea of how it might work on you.

Someone posted a nice going out dress on another thread. I'll find it now. I'm considering it myself even though I have no where to go Grin
