A funk all nighter? Mid summer.

Actually the most important thing I need to know is can I wear trainers? And some sort of flippy sun dress ?

I always start with footwear and go from there, if it's an all nighter surely trainers are your only option? Go all black, with funky trainers, you'll feel dressed up but it'll be practical.

Absolutely, but no one would have worn trainers back in the day?

Who cares?! No one will be looking at your feet, surely?!

ShowOfHands · 01/05/2022 20:49

Is what a 50yr old Mum would wear different to what a 50yr old non parent would wear?

I'm not sure what a funk all nighter is. A party? Inside? Outside? Lots of dancing I presume?

WoodenClock · 01/05/2022 20:49

I don't suppose anyone looks at my feet ever, but I remember the days when MN was horrified at the idea of any adult woman wearing trainers, ever, except in the gym Grin

True @WoodenClock but in my day everywhere shut at 2am, the only place open all night was the hospital. We did all wear heels (not totally the instruments of torture by todays standards, but enough that you'd have to swap shoes with someone just to give your feet a breather). How about a jumpsuit?

Yes, from the 70s/early 80s

I was being tongue in cheek.

If its an outdoor event its unlikely to have a dress code, so just wear what youre comfortable in for dancing

Discovereads · 01/05/2022 20:55

I’d be wearing DMs or combat boots as footwear and being all vintage punk at a funk night.

OatcakeCravings · 01/05/2022 20:55

Do you mean like Northern Soul? Lots of dancing, leather soled shoes like brogues, loafers, t bars or Mary Janes.

or you know wear what you want!

hihellohihello · 01/05/2022 21:22

Flares. Sneakers. Skinny rib top.

VintageGibbons · 01/05/2022 21:44

Pork pie lace ups were what all the funk dancing girls wore at my school. With northern soul skirts and cheesecloth crop tops tied at the front. So - comfortable footwear and gorgeous swirly long skirt.

If you look at funk artists - they all wore white boots - but flat or low cuban heels. Not platforms.

George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic are on tour this year. All in trainers...

evilharpy · 02/05/2022 07:56

I have no idea but this sounds like so much fun, I want to go!

waltzingparrot · 02/05/2022 09:12

I'm just in awe of any 50 yr old being able to pull an all nighter!

Sqeebling · 02/05/2022 18:49

I've worn trainers my whole life as have all my friends and especially where any clubbing, raving was concerned with all night dancing involved.

Swapping shoes with your friend! Oh how that takes me back. I always got the short straw though as I was a 6 and she was a 5.😂

EinsteinaGogo · 02/05/2022 21:50

Swapping shoes with your friend? What was this wizardry I missed out on?

Well unless @Rina66 was my teen BFF, it's obviously a thing!
When your shoes started to rub to unbearable levels, you swapped with a friend on the basis that her shoes wouldn't rub you straight away or in the same place as your own, so you'd have some respite.

Freetodowhatiwant · 02/05/2022 21:58

We have lots of nights out dancing in my towj and personally I would go for a little black dress and trainers. Layer probably needed depending on weather so maybe a denim jacket that I could tie around my waist. Smallest bag possible to maximise dancing.

5128gap · 02/05/2022 21:59

I had some silver sandals once that were as mean as they were beautiful. It took 3 of us in shifts to manage them on a night out the once. And we were all bleeding by the time we got home.😂

Rina66 · 02/05/2022 22:01

@5128gap I am a size 5 so perhaps I am your teen BFF in disguise! I thought shoe swapping was so a thing - never came home in my own shoes 😂

What do you mean? I'm 50 and was a huge clubber back in the day. 80% of the time we were all in trainers. Admittedly, I couldn't pull off the combats and tiny, teeny halter top (with no bra😱) these days, but I'm still welded to my trainers.

I went clubbing recently (Gok Wan clubbing for oldies 7pm-12, was fab!) and wore my paper-bag jeans, slogan tee and favourite trainers. Popped leather biker jacket on top and cross-body bag- done! My best mate had a sequinned, long skirt on with trainers, tee and denim jacket. Easy dressing for all the dancing. Jumpsuit also sounds perfect.

Have a great time.

Northernsoullover · 02/05/2022 22:09

If its Northern Soul you want flats. I wear trainers (Gazelles) and wide leg jeans or trousers.

Oh it'd be no bother to me! In between my sciatica and my toilet trips, I barely sleep a wink these days. It'd be nice to have a bit of a disco to pass the time.😂

Well if you were, you'll still be wearing the scars from those silver sandals like a badge of honour!
