Dress lengths just keep getting longer and longer.

I thought about splashing out on a new dress for summer, as only have the one, but I am discouraged by the growing lengths since the past year or so.
I do recall midi used to actually mean midi (looking at you, M&S!), but now they have definitely grown. I wonder why, if the average woman is 5'4?
Why not offer 2 lengths or just opt for the middle ground?
And seeing as every damn ting is 'tiered' it isn't even easy to shorten them.

I am 5'5 and struggle so god knows how people shorter are getting on.
And yes, I know tall people will be thankful, but it is definitely at the exclusion of all others now, which is typical of the high street I know Sad

Here are just 2 samples from Hush. I just picked them at random. If they are that long on a model, I give up! it's bordering on ludicrous..

Anyone else had enough of dresses and their lurid patterns? I was so happy when they first came back, but they bury or defy the lines of my shape and look like giant curtains now.

@schnubbins totally agree with you about bodice of dresses being too short. Anyone over a B cup ends up with the waist of dresses currently in shops right under your boobs. It's really unflattering.

Oh god yes! Boden are especially bad for this, even in the long sizes

I love just above or just below knee dresses and skirts. I'm a tall hourglass and it suits me so much more than calf length or maxi (too old for mini!).

I wish proper tailoring and more well made, fitted styles would make a comeback, but I fear post-covid, its all floaty , flowery dresses with trainers and 'lesiure-wear' for some time to come! Ach well.

Yes waists are always too short for me.

I find fashion as a concept totally frustrating and annoying.

Why not have different shops with different identities and styles of clothing rather than all shops with slight variations of the same "in fashion" styles?

The concept is presumably just a way to make us but more clothes, even ones that don't suit us.

Couldn't agree more, I'm quite tall so can carry the length, but as I'm also broad in the shoulders with big boobs the current cohort of cottagecore dresses just make me look like I'm wearing a duvet cover. Whither tailoring?

Absolutely agree with this!
I don't like many dress trends at the moment, so I also know that ANY website will only stock the same thing but in a slightly different pattern. Everything is the same, everywhere. I'm done with it.

Truth is, it's been like that for many years now. I remember not being able to find dresses for daywear at all only 10 yrs ago. It was bodycon, mini skater or nothing.

Similarly with coats, footwear and so on.
You've seen one store, you've seen them all.

I saw a thread a few weeks ago where an OP asked could anyone point to dresses that were not wide, patterned, etc. Nearly every reply sent her straight to yet another store full of the same!

The only thing in the shops that has variation at the moment is jeans. Now that's a first!
