Curly hair, how do you deal with knots?

My hair is naturally curly. I tie it on top of my head at night, but it still gets knotty a lot. If I comb it the curls drop out and it gets frizzy. But if I don’t, by the time I wash it it’s very painful getting the knots out.

It also loses the curls at the back quite quickly, but stays curly at the sides.

Any suggestions how to deal with it are much appreciated. I’ve tried curly girl but it didn’t improve there look of my hair. I now use sls free shampoo and cone free conditioner and only wash my hair once a week approx as it’s very thick and takes a long time to dry. I use banana leave in conditioner and a little cantu curl cream.

Anything else I can use? Should use?

Silk bonnet and silk pillowcase to sleep in and on. I get knots at the back of my neck usually, so before they get too bad I put some leave-in conditioner on it and fingercomb it out.

If my curls start dropping midweek I either spray water on to wet it and then apply curl creme etc and finger curl it into shape again or flip head upside down and scrunch some gel in and hope for the best!

Thanks. Any suggestions for a cheap silk pillowcase and bonnet?

Do you use a comb or brush at all?

I have no issues with this but I do feel like it could be better, I see some turban styles that look really nice on Etsy and have heard good things about LilySilk ones too which are only £20.

Oops replied too fast! So I have some less curly curtain bang type front layers that I brush but for the rest of my hair I only ever use my fingers or a wide toothed comb when conditioning.

Have a look at nualamoreysalon on instagram, sometimes she posts care routines or products that she uses on different types of curl

I have a mommesilk cap with a soft elastic band, I think it was from amazon? But the broad elasticated band makes it much comfier to sleep in for me, it comes down just over my eyes and acts as a eye mask as well

I’m hoping that a silk pillow case will be enough, I don’t sleep well as it is and don’t want anything on my head really.
