Facial sun cream that won't bother my eyes.

JofraArchersFastestBall · 23/04/2022 18:18

I've know it's important to wear a sun cream on my face daily, but everything I've tried has given me tired, irritated eyes within an hour or so. I've tried stand alone creams, both pharmacy brands like le roche posay and beauty brands like beauty pie. I've also tried countless spf day moisturisers, from fancy to Aldi.

I avoid my eye area entirely when putting them on - but somehow I still end up irritated and blinking all day Angry

Please help! I'd like to start using retinol and vit c, but know I really need to sort out the spf issue first. What do you use that doesn't spread into your eyes?

I have the same issue. My eyes are very sensitive and water in the wind etc.

i have found using spf sparingly seems to really help the problem, I'm not sure if i was putting too much on before

JofraArchersFastestBall · 23/04/2022 18:30

@Itshothothot possibly, but I really have tried to be careful and use it sparingly - but it's always the same 😕

I've been using this for the past 2 months and haven't suffered any issues. I have sensitive skin and find a lot of sun creams make my face and eyes itch and I haven't experienced this with this one.

Heliocare Advanced Gel SPF 50... https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B002KDTGVE?ref=ppxpoppmobappshare

The only one I've tried which doesn't hurt my eyes is dermalogica solar spf booster. It's £££ but it's the only one that feels nice, doesn't give me spots or hurt my eyes

Echobelly · 23/04/2022 18:49

La Roche posay Anthelios is good for this - I often find face creams sweat into my eyes and sting, especially when swimming. This has been much better than anything else. It's about £18 a bottle usually, but it lasts for ages: www.boots.com/la-roche-posay-anthelios-shaka-ultra-light-fluid-facial-sun-cream-spf30-50ml-10259656

I use the Beauty Pie SPF 50 primer. It’s brilliant, proper spf that has stopped me getting burnt (I burn at the drop of a hat) and doesn’t have that shiny white sheen that lots of spfs do.
It doesn’t sting my eyes either.

This is great for me too.

Except I use the factor 50 one. I think it’s on offer in boots at the mo for £13

Powder sunscreen. Life changer.

Thank you all - off to google these suggestions

I have really sensitive eyes. I can't wear most make up, foundation cream and BB creams are out of the question. I do use hypromellose eye drops every day as dry eyes us half if my battle.
I use Piz Buin Ulta light face fluid every day in Spring/Summer and abroad with no problems. I never burn, it's quite dry (not greasy) and soaks in quickly.

Iamthewombat · 23/04/2022 21:52

I’m disagreeing with the Piz Buin recommendation I’m afraid. I had to ski off a mountain with my eyes scrunched shut because it made them sting so badly!

Bogofballs · 23/04/2022 21:55

Chemical sunscreen is a game changer, feels like powdery velvet. Doesn’t budge or make you sweat

i use Frezyderm 50

OllyBJolly · 23/04/2022 21:55

I have very sensitive eyes and use Frezyderm Factor 50 day (recommended by posters on this board). It’s great - survived scorching heat in Thailand with no sunburn at all. It’s a lovely base for make up which is a bonus

GroggyLegs · 23/04/2022 21:55

I use one called freezyderm from Amazon - sounds super dodgy but it's like a Matt primer rather than a cream and doesn't run in my eyes when I'm exercising.

I use this and it irritates my eyes. So now I don't put it on my forehead or upper eyelid.

Bogofballs · 23/04/2022 22:02

Yep I buy my Frezyderm now from amazon and it’s genuine/ fresh

I agree it feels more like a makeup primer.

Found out about it on here and now wear daily. Couldn’t cope wearing face spf lotion previously as just end up a sweaty mess!

Looking forward to trying some of these suggestions

I swear by Altruist. It was developed by a dermatologist near where I live. It's factor 50, hypoallergenic and doesn't irritate my blepharitis. It's on Amazon and an amazing price for such a great product.

ofwarren · 23/04/2022 22:12

I find using a mineral based one doesn't sting. I use the ones at Green People.

WhereAreWeNow · 23/04/2022 22:25

I have the same problem. It's one of the chemicals used in lots of sunscreens. I've found Vichy better than La Roche Posay for not irritating my eyes. I use one in a white tube called 3-in-1 mattifying or something. It might not be good if you've got dry skin. It works well for me and doesn't bother my eyes.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 23/04/2022 22:45

I'm allergic to loads of sunscreens so I only have a small pool to choose from, I use Natio for Men spf 30. I put it on my eyelids as well as everywhere else on my face. Unfortunately I just went to get a link to put on this post and it's not on Amazon anymore, they only have the regular (ie for women) Natio spf 30 which I can't use because it has rosehip oil in it. I'm hoping it will come back into stock soon.
