Work shoes - primary school office

New job starting after the holidays. I have decided I need to upgrade from Birkenstock!! What is suitable footwear for a school? I am a 5 wide. I walk in - so flats would be best. I want smarter than trainers as I think they are too casual. Help please.

I'm completely converted to Doc Marten shoes (1461s). I wear them to work with chinos and ankle length trousers and they are so comfortable (after the initial breaking in) and look great.
