What's the most hair you've had cut off.. and did you regret it?!

Me.. 54, long hair .It was shoulder length when the first lock down hit, and two years later it's down to my elbows. I don't colour it so it's brown at the back with streaks of white, scattered through.
I have lots of hair, it's thick and unruly as it's wavy.

But it needs a good (big) cut, now not just trims, as there are split ends and while it looks good now and then, it gets knotty easily when I'm out walking in all weathers with the dog.

I'm thinking off up to my shoulders or slightly shorter, maybe a deep curtains fringe (I had a fringe it's now down at chin level) But then I panic and think 'omg what if I hate it?'

Haircut booked for tomorrow...!

I've gone from really long to a shoulder length layered bob and then shorter again. Shortest maybe chin length? Long again now. I quite enjoy a change.

Below shoulders, thick, long hair cut off to a number two (shaped). I felt free. I could go swimming, to the gym, wash and dry it in ten minutes and not feel controlled by my hair.

To be fair, my hair grows quickly but still, it was worth it. I've done it many more times since.

Mid back to near buzz cut. Didn’t regret it because I was young and gorgeous.
Would probably regret it now. Hair is mid length and greying nicely.

Bum length to chin length, and I love it. Mine's thick and curly, so I'm loving how easy it is now.

SpeedofaSloth · 11/04/2022 23:00

Mid-back to chin length bob, no regrets.

Shaved my head at 17. It was liberating & sooooo low maintenance. Sometimes get tempted to go back!

I've gone from mid-back / below shoulder blades to a bob a few times since. I'm not overly attached to my hair - it'll grow back 😁

I tend to cut a fringe in every year or so, then grow it out when I remember I'm too lazy for one. I have wavy hair & a widow's peak so it needs to be styled daily to have smooth sleek bangs, & I can't be arsed...

Bottom of ribs length to pixie cut. Massive change! I actually liked the look of it when it was first done but found it very high maintenance. it took an age to grow out, and looked very untidy during the growing out period til it got to bob length. I didn't properly regret it but I wasn't any good at styling it and it was an annoyance getting it back to a length that I could tie it up again.

When I had DD1 I went from bum length to buzz cut. Low maintenance obviously, but it didn't suit me, nor did any of the lengths as it grew out so I've kept it long ever since.

Ejk1990 · 11/04/2022 23:21

When I got married 5 years ago it was to my bum. A week later I chopped it to shoulder length and never looked back.

Easier to deal with and I don't feel weighed down by hair.

At 38 I had my natural length (not actually very long Sad) cut off to my shoulders. I originally asked for shorter but the stylist talked me out of it, thinking I'd regret it (tbf, I had started my foray into the salon by saying I wanted someone who had at least been alive at my previous haircut...).

Couple of years later I took the plunge and got a pixie. Loved it from the start, and get it re-done every six months or so.

If you hate it you can grow it back.

MarisPiper92 · 12/04/2022 09:14

Waist-length to a sort of pixie/mullet (ear length). Did it myself with a pair of kitchen scissors, but it looked fantastic because I was 18.

My dd had 60cm cut off to donate, no regrets and much easier to put on her swimming cap.
I had most of my head shaved to go grey. It probably was not my greatest look, but was so fed up with colouring it.
