I’m in France, I’m going to Sephora, what shall I buy?!

Why oh why don’t we have Sephora at home?

Anyway, what’s good? Any recommendations for lipstick that isn’t too scary (I never wear it) that will instantly make me look stylish and French?

Hopeful bump!

I didn't realise that Sephora wasn't in the UK. It's my DDs favourite shop. I'm sure she would have loads of ides for you. I do know that she often asks for advice and the assistants are really helpful.

Doesn’t really matter what you “need”.

Just double your budget and double the time you THINK you’ll spend inside… then enjoy walking up and down EVERY aisle with glee.

I’m sending the husband to a museum and looking forward to spending a good deal of time in there! Also in any pharmacies I come across 😁

Rare beauty is really nice, it's actually a celebrity brand but surprisingly good, I like the cream blushes which can also be worn on the lips.

Sephora own brand has some really good lip products, especially the liquid lipsticks but if you're new to lipstick maybe try a stain first?

Milk makeup also has a really nice cheek and lip product and they tend to sell travel sizes to try at Sephora near the cash register, it's also my favourite part of Sephora, all the mini sizes to try.

Gosports · 07/04/2022 12:22

Rare beauty - noted, thank you! I love the minis too, especially because we are flying (hand luggage only) so can’t buy any large sizes

Space NK sell Rare Beauty, so if you see something of theirs you like save your limited carry on space and just buy it when you get back :).

I once spent an hour and a half in the big Sephora on the Champs Elysee Blush. Mostly I bought skincare but I also got some see through zip up pouches for makeup/toiletries and such that are still going strong now some fifteen years later.

BastardtheCat · 07/04/2022 14:00

What??!

I've been a long-standing camping Francophile and not come across this! Intermarché for me (don't get me started on the lovely hand washes) was a treat!

I feel I've missed out!

BusterGonad · 07/04/2022 16:18

I adore Marc Jacobs lipstick. In the black bullet. Cream Le Marc or something like that, but I think his beauty stuff isn't made anymore.

Deathraystare · 07/04/2022 17:46

@Gosports

We did! Ages ago! I went in one in Kingston upon Thames! However it closed decades ago. I only went once as I found it just before it closed down :(

Ericaceae · 08/04/2022 12:05

Have you been yet, OP? I love all the Sephora own-brand sheet masks, eye masks, etc. Always buy a big handful if I'm away. The pink ones with pearl in them are particularly lovely. Their own brand lipsticks in the card tubes are great too.

NellesVilla · 08/04/2022 12:10

Definitely try Sephora own brand masks as said above, and Milk makeup. Have fun!

Gosports · 08/04/2022 12:24

Pleased to report I bought a milk lip/cheek thing, some Eborian stuff that promised great skin in seven days (hurrah!) and an own brand clay mask. Staying close to the shop so tempted to go back…

Tank up on loads of nice bits ‘n’ bobs, would be my advice. You can have me-time trying them all out, and even with your friends with the old champers!

Naviwhat · 31/07/2023 16:39

Bumping this - I know it’s a year old but I have the same question! 😁

How did you get on with your purchases OP?!

beguilingeyes · 31/07/2023 17:00

If you're anywhere near London, there's a Sephora at Westfield White City.

PepperJacksBestHo · 31/07/2023 17:11

Plus Sephora online for UK, there's an app too.

UnicornStarfish · 01/08/2023 14:32

I can't think of a single thing that would my heart skip a beat at Sephora, the UK is usually cheaper. I think you should go on the French website and see what their bestsellers are. Make a long list, compare prices to UK and then narrow it down to your own list for when you go to the shop in person. You can also order online and pick it up at some shops, have a look and get a refund on what doesn't please you.
If I were in France I'd be checking out their pharmacies and their Herboristeries. That's where real gems are if you ask me!
Lipstick you might like:
Pink Souffle - liquid nudey pink
RISE UP (03)- cool dark-mauve cream finish (dark nudey pink, rouge lacquer)
