Easiest way to go back to natural hair colour

I dyed my hair a reddish brown on impulse around a year ago. I don't really like the maintenance aspect so I want to go back to my natural black hair... I have googled and they have advised dying your hair a colour close to your natural colour? Is this the easiest way?

The growing out stage honestly looks awful which is why I even went back to the salon to touch up/re-dye it.

I went from reddish black back to my natural colour about 4/5 years ago. It took an absolute age and I don't think there's an easy way of doing it other than waiting for it to grow out which, like you, I didn't want to do as it looked so awful. I ended up having my hair bleach bathed at a hairdressers but tbh this left my hair very orangey, and then I had some (very few) highlights put in to break it up a bit.

Left it a few months for the orange-ness to die down and then ended up going back to the hairdressers and had a balayage where the ends are lighter than the top so regrowth wasn't too noticeable. It wasn't a great experience and it took ages but I now haven't touched my hair with dye/colour for almost 3 years and it was worth it in the end!

Currently growing mine out -thanks 😂
I will never dye it again, stuff the grey. The upkeep, the smell of the dye that lasts for weeks despite daily washing, the cost.
The natural colour is level with my ears right now, my midway down my back, I just tie it up a lot and avoid scrutinising it too much.

When I've had red hair and got pidsed off with the roots I just dyed it black again. Job done.

@Whyaskwhenyoudontwanttheanswer I think it looks bad on me because my hair is dreadful. And I feel like I have reached my grooming bandwidth as I wear makeup (which I love) so I have not much time for hair! I thought dyeing it might mean it looks better overall. I mean it's a nice colour and all but I still have bad hair lol.

If you want to get rid of the red you’ll need to find a colour that’s got blue undertones or you’ll forever have a reddish tinge.
