If you have short legs, do you wear cropped jeans/trousers?

I have very short legs, disproportionately so as my inseam is about 27 inches but I'm between 5"4 and 5"5 inches tall.

The trend now seems to be to wear jeans that are slightly or even very cropped, it's more modern looking. But when I do it, my legs look even shorter.

Just wondering if there's anyone else with this dilemma and any advice to solve it?

I am 5ft3 with 28in inseam and have a few cropped trousers I really like and wear lots - (grungy grey jeans, linen culottes and a next checked pair that look like wool).

Anything too slightly cropped doesnt work (7/8 trousers are normal length on me) but just baring the lower third of my calf works well. So guessI am not following the trend exactly but doing it in a way that works for my proportions.

I'm the same height as you and have short legs, too. And the same problem with ankle grazer trousers!

I find high waisted, skinny jeans that go to my ankle rather than above it to be the most flattering

lindyloo57 · 02/04/2022 17:59

I only wear them in winter with long boots under, I find they make my legs look shorter otherwise.

Happygirl79 · 02/04/2022 18:01

Please just don't
Not even skinny tall models look good in them

LadyEloise1 · 03/04/2022 14:23

Yes I do. I have a classic apple shape Sadbut good ankles. Smile

NeverDropYourMooncup · 03/04/2022 17:23

I always buy 7/8 or 'ankle high' trousers.

It's the only way I can get trousers to stop at my feet rather than trail along the floor behind me.

Trousers are not manufactured for the stubby of leg amongst us. Not even the short fittings.

Greyhare · 03/04/2022 18:57

Yes I do most of the time, I don't care that I'm short, I just. prefer a crop or rolled up trouser, I'm 5ft almost 2 a 27in inside leg is touching the floor on me.

Yes, all of the time but I have proportionally longer legs to my torso so it balanced out okay.

Thinkbiglittleone · 03/04/2022 19:45

I am 4"11 and I turn my skinny jeans under to show a bit of ankle with my wedged trainers, so yes I do, I don't think they make my legs look any chubbier or shorter than in longer ones.

I do prefer a good flare (not bootcut, flare), but you just can't often find them in my size Sad

absolutelynotfabulous · 04/04/2022 10:43

I wear them with caution. I find they work best with long chelsea boots (not stubby lace up boots). I also wear brogues

Any kind of cargo pants are a no no though.

I'm 5'4" with a 29 leg, so not as short-legged as some.

ChameFangeNail · 04/04/2022 10:45

You have to balance out the cropped leg with a higher waist. I am 5’6” but my inseam is only 28” (cry). The 90s were a nightmare for me but I love the high waisted mum jeans/ankle grazer trend. It really suits me.

Floisme · 04/04/2022 10:49

I like them bang on my ankle bone and I'm very fussy about hitting the right spot. But I've never really understood this idea that they make legs look shorter. Speaking for myself, what makes my legs look short is when my trousers spill all over my shoes.

EdinaMonsoon · 04/04/2022 17:06

I have the double whammy of short legs and cankles to complement my ridiculously long body. Thank you, Mother Nature Hmm I do wear crops but they have to be ankle skimming. I usually opt for a slim cut rather than skinny. I can do a relaxed fit too but not too baggy otherwise I even heavier & shorter of leg than I really am.

The classic mid-calf crop also makes my lower legs look even shorter & heavier but to be honest I'm not sure they are flattering on even those blessed with gazelle limbs.

I agree with @ChameFangeNail about the balancing effect of a high waist. I just bought some high waisted cropped flares and the hem sits barely an inch above my ankle bone; they really do lengthen the leg and are very flattering, making me actually look in proportion. I'm 5'6" and a size 10 and I wear them with flats.
