Glossier, Benefit or L'Oréal unbelieva brow - best brow gel?

Mummybear888 · 31/03/2022 10:34

Hello,

What is the best dark brown/soft black brow gel I can buy in the UK?

I have dark eyebrows with a small bald patch on one of them. Need something with a very strong hold too. They are as stubborn as a mule!

Have heard about Glossier, Benefit and L'Oréal brow gels but wanted to get some Mumsnetters options please ☺️!

Thanks in advance!

I’ve used glossier and really liked it but thought it was quite expensive for such a tiny tube.
I’m currently using Eyeko brow gel and it’s great. Very natural, applies with a simple sweep and comes in a much larger tube.

LadyOfTheCanyon · 31/03/2022 10:41

I would have thought a pen would be best to fill the bald patch rather than a gel which darkens and thickens existing hairs?

I've tried Boy Brow by Glossier and it's good but it's a subtle effect - I don't think it would disguise a gap.

Max factor do a similar one ( I think the trick to a good gel is the really tiny brush) which I use.

Rimmel have a great gel/pen/wand hybrid thing which is a cool toned brown , sticks to the skin as well as thickens brows. Can't remember what it's called, I'll find a link.

LadyOfTheCanyon · 31/03/2022 10:45

Here it is. It's designed to fill in sparse areas. Only three shades though which is a bugger but I can vouch for the soft brown as a cool toned blue eyed blonde (who used to be a brunette)

I have gaps too. Glossier doesn't cover them up unfortunately and for me isint very strong at holding brows in place. Have heard good things about Refy brow gel but haven't tried it.

I've bought a pencil (Anastasia) to fill in the gaps but tbh still doesn't give me the effect I'm after. I'm going to try again with the glossier brow pen which I've seen give great, natural looking results. Think I was using it wrong 1st time I tried it.

kuime · 31/03/2022 11:10

Can anyone recommend a brow gel that's also helps growth or at least has some nourishing oils etc in it? I've been using L'Oréal brow artist, which works fine but I worry it's damaging my eyebrows - they're def sparser than before.

dontgobaconmyheart · 31/03/2022 11:25

I've tried all of those and prefer cheap clear mascara (boots natural collection). Glossier boy brow is quite a good product but so overpriced and it won't fill gaps or do much of anything where hair is sparse. I only use it on top to fluff/shape/set the brow after using a brow pencil to shape and like it for that but don't rate it as a stand alone product and my brows are fairly even/full.

I'd look for a super slim brow pencil, NYX or makeup revolution do them and fill the sparse areas in with little strokes to look like hairs, then set with a gel.

daisyjgrey · 31/03/2022 19:09

None of them will fill the gap.

I have no eyebrows bar the bit nearest my nose thanks to the 90's. I use Glossier brow flick and draw them on with hair strokes. It's the best thing I've ever found, doesn't smudge, doesn't sweat off, I've even come out of a pool fairly unscathed. I buy them two at a time and if they discontinue them I'll cry actual tears.

Watch Katie Jane Hughes' instagram highlight on using it as there are some tricks to getting it to last longer.

ELF gel Brow pomade (in a little glass tub) would do the job, and comes in a dark brown shade

Ohsugarhoneyicetea · 31/03/2022 19:25

This is better than all those mentioned (yes tried them all)

ArtVandalay · 31/03/2022 19:25

Boybrow is nice but I wouldn’t recommend it. It’s too small and like all glossier products, has very little actual product in it. Plus it does not hold them.

tigerbear · 31/03/2022 19:41

The ELF one is a solid gel, not liquid, which is better than the mascara brush one ones, as really the liquid ones won’t do a good job of covering bald patches, if there’s no actual hair for it to grip on to.

Mummybear888 · 01/04/2022 04:37

Thank you so much everyone, so useful and am going to research them all a bit more.

I hear some brown brow products have a slight orange tinge to them when used, which doesn't suit me. Am hoping to find something with a cooler undertone but dark at the same time. This brow business really is a minefield!

@daisyjgrey "cry actual tears". Lol love this! 😂

@Mummybear888 if you PM me your address, I’m happy to send you my ELF one for free, as it’s actually too dark for me.

I use a brow pen/pencil to fill in the gaps and then a clear gel to hold them in place. Clear gels are all pretty similar tbh so I wouldn’t bother with an expensive one.

My problem with coloured brow gel is I forget it’s there, rub my face and end up with brown gel flaking everywhere. Might just be me though!

Mummybear888 · 02/04/2022 08:18

Thanks again ladies!

@tigerbear thank you so much for the offer, very kind of you! I did just buy a pomade yesterday and it didn't really suit me (could have been my heavy handed application though!), so I'm going to give a brow pen/pencil a go. Thank you again though! ☺️

Charlotte Tilbury is excellent

meloncolic · 02/04/2022 09:25

The maybelline version is great!

I’ve been using something called rapid brow, I bought on Amazon. I’ve very light fine brows that I’ve not waxed in about 5 years as they are nonexistent. A few weeks of using this and I actually looked like I had eye brows. I’ve been using it about 4 months now and now I’m plucking and shaping to keep them tidy.
WrinklesShminkles · 02/04/2022 15:38

Vote 2 for Glossier Brow Flick - very easy to use.

picklemewalnuts · 02/04/2022 15:43

Does anyone do the soap thing? rubbing a brow brush on a bar of soap and using that to style them? Still need to add colour, though.

Lndnmummy · 02/04/2022 17:17

I have tried them all. Anastacia is the best

I do! A wet brush on some Pears soap. Keeps my unruly brows set all day long.

I love glossier boy brow but it is pricey for what you get.
