And I really liked Penelope Cruz’s dress, the shape suited her so well and it was classic yet also original.

BattledoreAndShuttlecock · 28/03/2022 13:28

Call me old fashioned, but I don't think you should need a full Brazilian wax to wear a red carpet dress.

SimonedeBeauvoirscat · 28/03/2022 13:29

Oh one more - Venus Williams. The only very low cut dress I saw which was good enough to justify that much boob on show. She looked incredible.

megletthesecond · 28/03/2022 14:53

Lupita always gets it right.
P Diddys daughter looked great. Also Alana Haim.

Lily James looked cheap.
Tracee Ellis Ross, why didn't anyone stop her from going out?! It would have been knockout if the neckline was higher and straight.

MarshaBradyo · 28/03/2022 15:00

Lupita always looks incredible at these things

Need to check more out

@KillingMeDeftly

Olivia Colman looks great - it's a much better dress than the one she wore when she actually won. If it was gold it would've tipped her over into looking like an Oscar though.

I also love the drama of Jada Pinkett's green dress. It's a gorgeous colour and she can carry off those if silhouettes.

Probably in the minority here but I think Kristen Stewart looks fantastic! She's never been one for conventional styles and the tux with shorts is very much in her wheelhouse and she's carried it off with aplomb.

But let's face it, the outfit that's going to get the most press is Timothee Chalamet's lack of shirt!

I'm v much in favour of his lack of shirt Grin

I really don’t like being rude about the way anyone dresses but ffs some of last night’s frocks were awful. Some people need to buy a BIG mirror 😂

MurderAtTheBeautyPageant · 28/03/2022 15:11

I thought Lupita Nyong'o's dress looks cheap and plasticy. It looked like it was made of one of those tinsel curtains.

Not a great year for the Oscar red carpet. Hated all the slashed to the thigh dresses.

Jessica Chastain's dress was a big fat no for me too.

Completely agree about JC. If it had been any other colour combo than bronze and lilac it would have worked so much better. Bizarre choice.

moomims · 28/03/2022 15:19

I wonder that so many seem to have no idea of colours.

Nicole Kidman could hardly have chosen a more unflattering colour . Considering they all use stylists etc I find it bizarre.

SpaghettiNotCourgetti · 28/03/2022 15:22

I love Lupita Nyong'o's dress - but I love her in everything, so she was always going to be a favourite for me. I also like Jessica Chastain's dress - it's not a combination I'd go for normally but I think it works. My favourite is Alana Haim, though, to the point that I wish it had been my wedding dress. I LOVE IT.

@moomims they were all raving on E! about how gorgeous it was. I suppose if you were suffering from bloating it would be a good number to wear.

I wonder if when it comes to the Oscars they decide they know best. The stylist might suggest something that suits them but they want something more pizzazzy.

I'd imagine being a stylist to a big Hollywood name involves biting your tongue a lot!

SimonedeBeauvoirscat · 28/03/2022 15:45

I thought that for all but the biggest stars you didn’t get a huge amount of choice? You already have relationships with whichever fashion brands and they’ll offer you a couple of choices but they’ll be dressing a bunch of other people too so the biggest stars get lots of choice and the less important you are, the more it’s take it or leave it. That’s how I understood that it worked anyway.

Who was it a year or two ago who just went to a shop and bought an ordinary dress because they said none of the fashion houses would offer to lend them one? And then she won and all the fashion PRs were falling over themselves to grovel to her …

This dress is lost on me!

My favourite dress was Saniyya Sidney. She looked absolutely beautiful.
