What style of work trouser is in? Two babies and one pandemic later and I’m clueless

As above really. I last wore smart work clothes about three years ago and wore 7/8 length slim cut trousers.

What are people wearing now? I’m 40, small and slim . Oh and while we’re at it shoes?! Please tell me the holy grail of attractive but comfortable has been discovered

I wear mostly black jeggings or ponte leggings (White Stuff) to work, but I do make sure that I stop wearing them the moment they start to fade and they're consigned for dog walking wear. I'll then wear a smart shirt/jumper and either a chunky necklace or a neck scarf.

Shoes are a mixed bag... I either go for smart knee length leather boots, or ankle boots like DM chelsea style. I wore a pair of Skechers espadrilles today though as it was so warm.

However I'm no fashionista, and I just like to be comfy!

I bought some black bootlegs and some black wide leg ones with a side stripe. Both M & S.

MichaelAndEagle · 24/03/2022 21:55

I've got some cropped culottes, with boots.

I was in London for a few days this week and although I can't help much on trousers, I did notice that a boyfriend type loose / longline blazer seemed to feature heavily.

I’m going back to work after mat leave and planning on wearing my slim 7/8th trousers. Don’t care if they’re fashionable, they suit me.

Dontfuckingsaycheese · 24/03/2022 22:11

I have shitloads of 7/8 slim trousers I plan to wear the minute I’ve knocked off my lockdown pounds. I’ve thought of them longingly lounging in the wardrobe for almost 3 years!!

MistySkiesAfterRain · 24/03/2022 23:21

Wide leg. I went for lunch with two 20 and 30 something colleagues and they were both wearing wide leg trousers. Anything between boot cut, flare, wide is back.

Tabasco007 · 24/03/2022 23:27

I had to google 7:8 trousers! Never knew that was another word for cropped. I'm still wearing my cropped sometimes, but also have some wide legs and culottes too.

What sort of work do you do? It's all gone very casual in our office since Covid.

Amelion · 25/03/2022 00:50

Wide leg and trainers for me!

Libertybear80 · 25/03/2022 00:57

I've just bought some lovely black wide leg trousers from John Lewis

That would be my view!

Which style is most flattering to your figure?

Ed1n · 25/03/2022 07:06

I love wide leg trousers but the cropped slim are flattering. Pondering on it more I think a lot of the issue is I now have zero tolerance for uncomfortable shoes and it’s harder to match comfy shoes with smart trousers! Grin

Wide legged trousers and trainers. Or loafers if you don't think you can get away with trainers at work.

Try looking up Me+Em - even if you can't afford them (I can't), the styling will give you ideas.
