When do you put away your winter things?

Assuming you do!

I'm toying with the idea...but we all know that the minute I put away my winter coat, we're going to get dreadful weather Grin

Coincidentally, I put most of my woollen sweaters into winter storage this morning but that has more to do with my eczema flaring up than spring weather.

Fairislefandango · 17/03/2022 17:42

Never. I live in the Lake District. It's always winter here Grin.

FlamingGoat · 17/03/2022 17:43

Never. I'm in Scotland 🤣

Fairislefandango · 17/03/2022 17:51

Oh in that case I defer to your superior chilliness, FlamingGoat. I might beat you on dampness though.

keffie12 · 18/03/2022 18:33

Oh! I didn't know people still did this. My late mom used to put the winter clothes away.

I thought it was a tradition that had died out with my mam's generation. Clearly not.

So it's obvious from me, that I don't do it! I don't know anyone who does.

Various clothing can be needed at a time of the year, here. I can't see the point of putting it away..

Zazdar · 18/03/2022 18:35

Where do you put them?

Shinyandnew1 · 18/03/2022 20:23

I put mine in storage bags in the loft.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 18/03/2022 20:29

I vacuum packed really big, chunky knits this week. I am moving into the tee/Breton top and cardigan phase of the year, although I did keep a couple of heavy jumpers in the wardrobe. Coats and jackets are in the hall cupboard so easily accessible all year round. (Also in Scotland and we had snow in April here last year!) Things like summer dresses will come down in May.

I enjoy the switching and being reunited with old friends!

Longleggedgiraffe · 18/03/2022 21:46

I don't. I have enough wardrobe space to keep everything hanging. In Scotland it can be Dummer dress one minute and wool coats the next.

ThistleTits · 18/03/2022 22:04

@Ionlydomassiveones

Ne’er cast a clout ‘til May is out.
This ^ is what I go with too.
keffie12 · 18/03/2022 22:18

@Zazdar

Where do you put them?
I keep them in my wardrobes in sections. I'm very organised over my clothing

So, if that is where you put them away when they are out of season, where do you keep them when they are in season?

EdenFlower · 19/03/2022 18:14

I never put anything away until at least the May bank holiday!! It's freezing here even though it's sunny- a cold wind and frost this morning!! I always have a bank of transitional items year round- the only things that get put away are wool trousers, heavy jumpers and hats and scarves etc. I swap them them out for summer trousers, dresses and short sleeved blouses. The rest stay all year! Even in summer I like a long-sleeved top or jumper on unless it's truly hot!

ArabeI · 19/03/2022 18:14

I organise my clothes by type, then sleeve length (if that applies) rather than colour - though I could do both!. The out of season clothes and coats are in a wardrobe in a spare room, and covered in individual cellophane covers. It sounds organised but I don't feel it is, as it's still overwhelming.

I've started to use the graduated hangers again, which means the wardrobes are too full. I've regretted past culls so might vacuum pack some initially, and some can go to the charity shop pile.

In the same place. I don't move anything out of my wardrobes or cupboards unless I'm having a clear out.

Then once cleared out the remaining clothes go back in the wardrobes and cupboards. The unwanted clothes go to the charity shop.

Gwenhwyfar · 20/03/2022 12:07

Definitely not for a while yet. It snowed this morning and it can still snow in April,

Not everyone has enough wardrobe space. I don't so I use a big suitcase for summer/winter things.

Yes, of course. I still have jumpers and coats for summer, but the very heaviest things get put away.
LightSpeeds · 20/03/2022 12:11

Usually in May.

woodhill · 20/03/2022 12:29

I always pit Winter stuff away but not yet. I'm lucky to have spare drawers and a wardrobe so swap over

Pigtailsandall · 20/03/2022 14:21

I brought out spring jackets yesterday and packed away my very long and heavy wool coat, as well as my parka and my child's snowsuit. I still have my mid-weight wool coat out but the three items above fill up one 50l storage box so that was an easy task. And I'm in London so I don't expect much more below 0 weather

ppeatfruit · 21/03/2022 16:34

Like an op I live in layers all year. I did \soakwash 2 of my thick winter polo neck sweaters today though. The silk ones can wait till it warms up a bit more,

lollipoprainbow · 21/03/2022 16:39

End of May beginning of June. I always get caught out between seasons, I wish I had a big enough wardrobe to have all my clothes out at once!!

NeedleNoodle3 · 21/03/2022 16:42

I don’t put mine away but I’ve moved my spring stuff into the centre of my wardrobe. Now I have lots of lovely pretty colours to choose from instead of all my ginger, black and khaki winter stuff.

JaceLancs · 21/03/2022 19:35

I’ve stopped wearing jumpers and sweater dresses so they will go away next weekend
I’ll probably keep long sleeved blouses and dresses out until end of April unless it suddenly warms up
