Help me find a top for glam birthday party

Im going to a friends 50th party soon in a really stylish restaurant, she's gone for a Hollywood glamour kinda theme so wants everyone dressed to impress.

I was going to buy a dress but tbh I don't go many places so rather than buy something to wear once I thought I'd go for a satin bias maxi skirt & glam it with an amazing top, shoes etc. I've ordered this www.karenmillen.com/satin-slip-woven-skirt-/AKK07029.html?color=148

I'm finding it really hard to find a top. I'm 49, size 12, pale with dark hair average boobs. Don't want anything too low that I'll be pulling at all night. Prefer a bit of a sleeve but sleeveless ok but not cami. Also would love a pop of colour

Any ideas?

Think it would look great with a beaded or sequin top. Have you looked at coast? I’ve had a couple of nice things from there recently.

Oh thanks there are lots of tops I like in those links. I thought the Maeve top was perfect but it's out of stock. I love the Ivory Coast one but think it's probably not quite glam enough.

Definitely like a bit of sparkle, saw this & love it www.warehousefashion.com/drapey-sequin-batwing-top/AWW04718.html

What colour would go shoes & bag?

It might be too warm but have you thought of a black roll neck? Maybe a sleeveless one. Would look classy. Love the colour of the skirt!

Love both the Kurt Geiger & Zara ones @Gonnagetgoing
How on earth do the Zara ones stay on though? I've never managed to keep a pair like that on without having claw toes that ended up in spasm. Maybe it's because I have wide feet then have to size up a bit.
Will have to get to a KG store see if I can walk in those...soooo pretty

@Leftbutcameback like the look but don't think it's glam enough for this event. Might look for one for a normal night out though!

@BrainFoggerty - no idea re the Zara ones staying on!

For me - the KG ones you’ll probably wear more than once rather than the Zara which would be once or twice only.

You’ve got me tempted with the shoes now though!

BrainFoggerty · 16/03/2022 09:09

@Gonnagetgoing oh I'm a sucker for pretty shoes too. Although I rarely wear heals now - social life is mostly round friends houses these days.
If you have opportunity to wear them definitely buy!!

As soon as I'm told it's theme, I don't go. Why cause people more stress than they already have.

I'd buy a silk shirt that you can wear afterwards on many different occasions, even with jeans.
It depends on the colour of the skirt as to the colour of the shirt. Some fabulous High Street jewellery and jewel coloured heels plus a fancy clutch bag should finish the outfit.
I have a champagne coloured, satin, bias cut, strapless dress which I have worn as a midi skirt as it has no padding in the boob area.
I wore a plain cream silk, button up blouse which I left open quite low with tape and bought a narrow belt with a jewelled buckle plus darkish-red suede stilettos and matching clutch with a cheap diamante brooch pinned onto it plus diamante stud earrings.
I looked good and more importantly I felt good and wore the separates for many other occasions. I still have the clothes and wear them.
You'll look fabulous and silk always looks chic if worn in the right way.
Have a great time.

@Winnipeg23 I know what you mean so that's why I'm buying what I like & will wear again rather than being strictly to the theme

@LoisLane66 I love that idea. I did I buy a sparkly off the shoulder top from coast but am having second thoughts now about going with a silk shirt! The party is this weekend so I have time......

You can jazz up plain heeled court shoes with clip on earrings as long as the underside isn't too bulky by your toes.
If you don't have a jewelled belt then look in charity shops for a suitable brooch to clip through the normal buckle to hide it.
If I, at 77 can get away with doing all that yadda yadda at my age and know that even my kids think mum looks uber stylish, then you'll look a million dollars and feel it too no matter what your size. Just keep the glitz to shoes, bag and ears or belt, bag and shoes, not all over.
You'll look stunning.
