I need magic trousers

Help me find some magic trousers please!

You know, the ones that make you look 3 inches taller and 1/2 stone lighter.

I am short (5 foot 1) but quite slim (size 8)and have a fairly flat tummy. I do though have heavy thighs and saddlebags. I don't have a huge budget (up to about £40).

Anyone have any ideas?

skinny jeans

Sidge · 04/01/2008 22:45

Yikes no, wouldn't they make me look like a triangle?

Whilst not claiming to be a fashionista, I recommend stretch bootleg jeans. Most places do them, I'm afraid its a case of trying on 150 pairs until you get the one. Then buy 2 pairs of them.

widgypog · 05/01/2008 12:52

sidge...I dont know how you could look like a triangle at size 8 but skinny jeans with some slouch type boots with a bit of a heel looks nice..I am the same height as you and a size 12 amd it looks ok on me. tips for looking taller if you dont know already are always wear your trs or jeans to the floor with heals underneath. AND always choose dark denim or dark trousers.HTH A BIT

Sidge · 05/01/2008 13:53

Maidamess - I own about 4 pairs of bootleg jeans I like Next ones, they fit really well. I try and wear them with heeled boots. I think I need trousers rather than jeans as I seem to always wear jeans and need some variety.

Widgypog - I think I worry that as I am so short and have heavy thighs that skinny jeans would make me look really pear shaped. I haven't worn skinny jeans since I was about 12 and weighed 5 stone LOL!

Maybe I need to be brave and go and try some on. With a friend that will tell me honestly what I look like.

the dorothy perkins ones are nice especially as i had to get a size smaller than usual

Maidamess · 05/01/2008 14:18

Yes I like Dotty P's as well. Have heard good things about New Looks £10 jeans too. And Asda are good! (Believe it or not)

Maidamess · 05/01/2008 14:19

Sorry sidge, just realised you do not need more jeans

widgypog · 05/01/2008 14:30

sidge..I find OASIS trouser fit very well although need shortening. They have their new stock in on their website at mo. Also French Connection do nice smart casual trs.I do have 'heavy' thighs but as long as i wear a fitted top(not too fitted) it looks fine.

i think you need to try stuff on. Remember at a size 8 you are alomost the smallest size they make so how bad can it look?

nappyaddict · 09/01/2008 11:39

maidamess i can't find £10 jeans in new look ... they were £20 when i looked.

PMSL J-Lo LittleLapin

Not skinny by any stretch of the imagination, but fairly slim I spose. Anniemac - I think my waist is fairly small but not amazingly waspish, so I don't think it exaggerates my hips too much. My waist and hips are fairly OK but then I sort of shoot out from the thigh area with thunderthighs which I can't seem to shift (apart from saving for liposuction!)

I do occasionally buy trousers in a 10 to fit my backside/thighs, but then the waist is huge and gapes. I think I just need to go to the shops and try on a zillion pairs of trews which is my idea of hell as I hate shopping!!

Thanks for all your advice . Any other shops anyone can recommend? I was going to try M&S (don't laugh) as they do shortarse petite stuff. Last time I went in New Look they all laughed at me because I'm not 7 foot 9...

(not really but my god their clothes are designed for giant skinny women)

Bugger that J-Lo crossing out joke didn't work!

So much for trying to be witty...
