Body shop White Musk has changed, alternatives please

Hi everyone, I have used the Body Shop White Musk perfume for many many years now(maybe 30) and it has recently been reformulated so it is vegan. It does not smell the same anymore because the "musk" smell was partly due to an ingredient called seedlac which is a sticky substance produced by some sort of insect. Body shop were satisfied that this was cruelty-free but because it did not meet vegan label requirements have stopped using it. It is now more of a floral smell and has completely changed. So I am rather pissed off that they didn't keep a non vegan version as well so that customers like myself had a choice. I have not got a problem with vegans or vegan products but this is not the same fragrance at all. Can anyone else recommend an alternative please? I have a lot of problems with most other perfumes causing me to have headaches, which is why I stuck with this one for many years. I am hoping this is the right place, as I think there is a perfume section on here ?

And it's only £4.70 👍🏼

^They are giving that as the reason, but I believe it was the reformulation due to the removal of the fixatives Lilial & Lyral, because of new EU perfume regulations around 5 years ago, that caused the scent change.

However, I have a late 90s White Musk EDT, a 2018 perfume oil, and a 2024 body mist, and the late 90s EDT and 2024 body mist smell most like each other. The 2018 perfume oil is actually the odd man out, with a sharper opening. I actually think they did a good job getting this, and the vanilla, closer to how they smelled in the 90s

The 2018 Body Shop White Musk smells closer to Body Fantasies White Musk, with a slightly sharper opening than the 90s & 2024 versions.

Fresh & Pretty White Musk, also owned by Parfums de Coeur like Body Fantasies, also smells similar to the 90s Body Shop White Musk. The opening isn’t as “sharp” as the Body Fantasies & 2018 Body Shop White Musk.

I have all of these, and have been comparing.

As far as longevity, I sprayed the Body Shop 2024 body mist on my wrists last night, and could still smell it in the morning. I actually can with all of these.

Sorry I think it smells awful, nothing like the original, there's no musk in it, so the name should be changed

This thread has taken me back to being a teenager in the 90s!

I loved White musk from the Body shop, I've not worn it in years now

Sad to hear it's changed so much Sad

As suggested earlier in the thread, https://perfume-parlour.co.uk/ do some amazing dupes and they do stock The Body Shop White Musk but it's sold out currently, you can sign up tor email alerts to let you know when it's back in stock.

I've also used Jovan White Musk before, which is a lovely scent in it's own right. You can buy the Jovan one from Superdrug: https://www.superdrug.com/fragrance/perfume-for-women/womens-perfume/jovan-white-musk-for-women-cologne-spray-96ml/p/mp-00040923?gclsrc=aw.ds&gadsource=1&gbraid=0AAAAADp4mz--7e-qpnwH68X2-rSu3CouI&gclid=Cj0KCQiA5fetBhC9ARIsAP1UMgGoE5lM4IhcWF6nB7813jJ6XEUzGyNU5dOLQ6uQhBIcHc7Ejy1bAQaAiYREALwwwcB&gclsrc=aw.ds

But if there's a 'Savers' or 'Bodycare/Graham's' shop in your town or city, I'm pretty sure you'll find the Jovan one in there too.

Hope that helps Grin

Completely agree, all these decades and now need to find a different supplier 😡😠

@kittycloud I am not sure what’s happened with Perfume Parlour, their white musk has been out of stock for perhaps a year or more now. Just read that The BodyShop is not doing well financially, I wonder if this sort of thing, changing formulations etc isn’t helping. They changed the formula for Almond and honey body butter plus their Shea body butter also been changed and nowhere near as moisturising as the original. It’s been on the way down I think since it was sold to L’Oréal

It's frustrating when you find products, clothing, etc. that you absolutely love and they discontinue it. I too have used The Body Shop White Musk for YEARS. That's the only scent I wore for a very long time. Always got lots of compliments. I have a tiny bit left of the old version and found out it was discontinued when I tried to order more. I actually wrote to The Body Shop and got a very quick reply. They said they take customer's comments seriously and would submit my comments (along with many others) about bring back the old version. We shall see. I wear some other scents - not necessarily similar - but I like them. I wear Happy (I always like it when I smelled it on other women, so I started using it - I like this as much as the WM, although it's a different scent), Jovan White Musk (nice for the weekends, but not enough staying power) and I just tried some perfume oil called Skin (it's okay, pleasant scent, but just okay, and not very strong). In the meantime, after reading all of these comments, I've decided to try Juliette Has a Gun. I just ordered a sample on Amazon. Fingers crossed!

Well, after 30 odd years of stocking up on White musk, I am coming to the end, went in today to buy more and found out it now smells like ferret farts!!!!! I asked the woman behind the counter when it had changed (I have had so many presents of it over the years it could have been years ago 😂) I am devastated! I am so glad I saw your post and now know I am not the only one as she claimed it had not changed!!!?! I told her as an expert, I could categorically say it had changed. I will never go in the body shop again, I am so upset, my husband is finding it really funny 😭
