What would you wear to a summer wedding in a field? Invitation said something like “formal festival smart relaxed, be prepared for possible muddy conditions or hot & sunny” ??

wellies - if it's anywhere in the UK
then layers, lots of layers - think Glastonbury, but with washed hair

passwordnotsecure · 04/03/2022 23:29

Wear wtf you want but with stylish wellies

butterflymum · 04/03/2022 23:32

Insect repellent.

fallfallfall · 04/03/2022 23:32

wedges, footwear choice is very important. something that won't blow in the wind revealing your underwear.

Well, I think that covered everything 😵‍💫

KittenKong · 04/03/2022 23:34

I’d want to see the field to be honest! I assume it’s more of a lovely meadow than a field on a farm?

Deffo flat shoes!

Maverick66 · 04/03/2022 23:35

Wellies
Insect repellant
Sunscreen
Hat
Sunglasses
Warm wrap
A wedding in afield would be my idea of hell

HeddaGarbled · 04/03/2022 23:41

I think you’d better have a few options available and make the decision based on the weather when the time comes.

TigerLilyTail · 04/03/2022 23:43

Maybe tennis shoes, a dress and a cardigan.

LadyGAgain · 04/03/2022 23:45

Lovely maxi with accessories and gold flat sandals with wellies and waterproof in a bag for back up.
Sound amazing!!!

My friend had a festival wedding in a field. I was unable to go. Luckily for me because in my head it was camping/wellies/campfire/waterproofs the reality was the most amazing marquee, a sit down meal that looks wonderful, styling/flowers/decor was top notch. It was like no festival I have ever been too. More summer garden party and less leggings and vests!!! And definitely not a dance festival vibe with Face paint and head bands and shiny clothes.

Kite22 · 04/03/2022 23:52

I'd probably have lots of different options in the boot of the car.
In Summer, after a dry period, flat sandals would be fine, but once the rain comes, wellies would be the thing.

I'd have to ask though as there is no such thing as "formal festival" I mean, if you go to a festival you wear shorts and t-shirt or warmer equivalent as needed, not 'smart' nor 'formal'.
Then if most of it is outside - even under shelter - it will likely get cold during the evening, even if it is a lovely day. So things to wrap up in once the temperature drops (or if it is cold in the first place.)

I've been to 2 weddings in fields.
One was actually an informal "ceremony" and party when the tiny wedding had been the day before. They were very clear that everyone should just wear comfy practical clothes and not dress up.
The other was actually quite a fancy marquee, with boarded floor and a boarded path from the parking area, so people could wear normal wedding attire.

In your case I think I'd have to have further conversations with the host to see what they were intending.

Ooh, x-posted with Mumdiva99 .

So definitely worth cheking.

Xiaoxiong · 05/03/2022 00:11

I went to one a few years ago and absolutely froze. Not much shelter in a field! Bring layers!

RampantIvy · 05/03/2022 00:17

I would look at the weather forecast and wear weather appropriate clothes. Hot and sunny - a nice dress and flat sandals, cold and wet - jeans, jumper, rain parka and wellies.

gunnersgold · 05/03/2022 07:57

I went to a field wedding in the summer . Ground was rock hard and bumpy!
They had a marquee so just wore normal wedding clothes!
If it was wet I'd go floral maxi with cool wellies if it had that vibe .

I'd love this type of wedding and wish I'd done it. I'm waiting for one of my friends or family to do it. 😄

Ifailed · 05/03/2022 08:16

I'd take a tractor.

GattinaGattona · 05/03/2022 08:22

😂 tractor might be an idea! 😂

I went to one of these although it wasn't billed as a festive. Most women wore floaty/ maxi dresses and sandals. It was very dry and warm though. It was wandering about with various entertainment during the day and a marquee for the meal in the eve. I guess if it had rained we'd have just hung about in the marquee

RazorstormUnicorn · 05/03/2022 08:33

I went to a wedding in a field but I was bridesmaid so dress provided.

Other guests wore dresses, probably less formal dresses than traditional wedding. Flat shoes all round. In the evening we gathered round fire pits so wear something you are prepared to get smoky and need an immediate wash. We camped over in field so had layers, changes of clothes and were all in shorts the next day helping tidy and take down the site.

It was loads of fun.

My wedding had an outdoor theme but it coincided with a five day heat wave which hit a high of 34 degrees on our wedding day. Nobody froze!

GattinaGattona · 05/03/2022 11:32

Thanks everyone, I’m going to have to plan for all eventualities and decide on the morning weather depending 😅 I think there’ll be a marquee so not too festivally 🤞🏼
