Hairspray! Is there a brand that doesn't stink to the high heavens?

I've realised that hairspray is a great help at keeping my menopausal troll hair under control and sleek, but golly does it reek!
I've been using one I found in DDs room, but its a bit whiffy. Unfortunately it smells the same as hairspray did in my teenage goth days, so perhaps the main ingredient is unavoidable. It's so annoying to be showered, dressed up, perfumed... then put on smelly hairspray to ruin it!

Any recommendations? Thanks!

Elnette. There’s a reason it’s been around for 60+ years.

Oh I think Elnette smells vile!

I remember Elnette was the 'posh' one when I was younger... I may give it a go!

Elnette stinks!!

I use Bedhead Masterpiece - it’s fantastic and doesn’t stink like loads of others do. I can’t bear strong smells, so whilst this does have some smell, it’s not over-powering

Elnett do an unfragranced one.

Bluelillies · 28/02/2022 18:07

I use tescos own-£1 for a massive bottle
Failing that I use sainsburys-£3 for a small bottle

CarltonPeach · 28/02/2022 18:41

I find that Ellnett stinks, OP! Gives me a headache to be honest. I always use Tresemme, virtually no smell and tames my haystack hair!

Do they? I must look out for that.

Boots own brand unperfumed in a lilac coloured can.
Costs £1:50 (last time I bought some) no smell, and no sticky residue on your hair.

NiLunNiLautre · 01/03/2022 10:56

Thanks all.

It seems unscented may be the way to go rather than nice smell. I'll check out that Boots one, @GinghamChicken

I had a really nice smelling hairspray, my partner always said how nice I smelt when I used it! I can't remember for the life of me what it was, I willl try find it and come back

fantasmasgoria1 · 01/03/2022 12:04

I once tried elnett and I found that it did not hold my hair very well. It smelled OK ish but didn't perform well otherwise.

YellowAndGreenToBeSeen · 01/03/2022 20:48

I don’t find Elnette too strong smelling. Not as bad as Silvikrin or Tresseme - really strong to my nose.

Vo5. The one in the big pink can. I get though gallons of the stuff on dd (she does loads of dance). It’s the only one that she’ll tolerate and doesn’t choke her. It’s says it’s coconut scented on the can. I don’t think it is but it definitely doesn’t have that old-fashioned hairspray smell.
