eBay - Buyer filed payment dispute against me

Posting here for traffic..

I sold a bottle of perfum the other day and used signed for delivery with proof of signature, which has shown as delivered on Saturday. I leave feedback to thank them for their purchase, and a day later I receive a payment dispute from the buyer claiming that they didn't recognise the transaction.

Assuming that they are genuine, then maybe they've been hacked and their account was used to make a purchase? Obviously, I challenge the dispute and enter the tracking information and now wait for the outcome.

What happens now? I have been on eBay for over 14 years and never had anyone filing disputes against me until now.

It says I'm protected but it's really unnerved me. Sad

I had a buyer say they hadn't received goods - and eBay agreed with me and dismissed it. Then the buyer filed something with PayPal three months later! Ebay had no record of my emails to this buyer but it had shown as delivered. Even so Paypal forced me to pay up! It was very unfair. Make sure you keep records if eBay find in your favour which sounds like they will x

Thanks for your reply @HacketteofHacks. The buyer only has a feedback score of 20 and has only been on eBay for less than a year.

So sorry you were forced to pay up in the end. How were they able to claim something from you 3 months later even though eBay sided with you to start with? That is one persistent scammer!

I hope they will find it in my favour. Once the case is closed, I am going to block them.

How much was it for OP?

If it is a low amount eBay may just refund him/her themselves.

If not, unfortunately eBay have a tendency to side with the buyer if you use just their online dispute system. Your best bet for them to hear you out is to give them a call and explain. Don’t leave it to their online system as the decisions tend to be made automatically. Speak to a real person asap.

£40!

HacketteofHacks · 28/02/2022 16:01

the problem with my case was that my buyer was an international one - I had no idea. I posted it to a depot in the UK and even though the tracking said it arrived (I think it was Illinois) PayPal would not listen to me!

Ah so is it a PayPal dispute rather than eBay? If so this is a classic scam and unfortunately it will probably go in the scammers favour. My advice still stands though. Contact PayPal directly either via their online chat or phone. You’ll lose if you leave it to their online system.

It was £45.95 including postage.

I shall give them a call.

That's really unfortunate and unfair @HacketteofHacks. It seems Paypal doesn't care about sellers as long as people still use it.

I had this the opposite way round, my account was hacked and they bought items on my account (about a similar value as your perfume.) we contacted eBay and they investigated and sorted it. We got refunded and I assume the seller did too. Contact eBay and get your buyer to do the same, they will hopefully sort it for you.

xsquared · 28/02/2022 16:32

Well, that was quick. I got eBay to call me who reassure me that even if the other person wins, I won't have to pay anything because of seller protection.
