So can a company now buy a 'Swears By' recommendation?

Inspired by the M&S jeans Swears By which has just landed in my inbox.

Previous Swears By have always carried the 'Can't be bought/paid for' disclaimer (I forget the exact wording). But this is now absent.

So is Swears By actually genuine MN recommended stuff, or sly paid ads? Transparency would be great, HQ ✌🏻

I've also been wondering this. Sometimes it'll say something like "everyone's been recommending this on a thread" and then you click through to the thread and it's only been mentioned a couple of times. Makes me suspicious!
Would be good to have an answer

I’m often bemused about the ‘everyone is talking about’ when I look frequently enough on here and it’s the first I’ve even heard of it so 100% and advert imho.

I was quoted in one of these emails years ago! They used one part of my comment, saying I loved the product, but ignored the part where I bought the lotion again and didn’t like it, and wondered if it had been reformulated when they changed the packaging.
The entire thread only had about ten posts on it.
So I’ve wondered about this ever since.

Is this in Site Stuff? Because MNHQ will actually respond then.
