You never think it'll happen to you (light hearted)

In my 20s I remember seeing Trinny & Susannah and that 10 Years Younger lady consoling and cajoling sad old women in their 40s (ha!!!!) because they'd lost their way and didn't know what to wear anymore. I thought 'Ooh that'll never happen to me, I know what I like, I know my body shape, I'LL NEVER BECOME LIKE HER!' Grin Fast foward 20 years and I'm exactly that woman. My shape has changed, i have boobs and a belly (which I've come to love) but am completely stuck in a tshirt/jumper and skinny jeans and DMs rut. I don't even bother jazzing shit up anymore with a blouse. In my head I want to be ethereal and boho with long floaty floral dresses (maybe DMs still but some other type of boot or sandal - NOT TRAINERS 😂 ) and just be effortlessly glowing and sensuous at all times. WinkWhere can I find this for a size 14/16 5 foot 7 pear shape that can't afford over £50 for a dress? I'm a charity shop regular bit can't find anything right. I just wanna donate all my old stuff and start all over again! Blush Please give me all your etheral / boho shop suggestions even if they're abit pricey because I'll be sure to check out cpupon codes and sales etc. Grin

Anthropologie.

BusterGonad · 24/02/2022 15:04

Ha ha. I know what you mean op. I think you should go on ASOS or something like that, use the filters and see what they have. In the past I've often seen lovely Boho dresses on Nobody's child. M&s have plenty of different brands too. They did a, collaboration with Ghost which looked lovely.

cutebutstabby · 24/02/2022 15:48

Ooh thankyou, really love the Anthropolgie dresses and the Nobody's Child ones would be nice if the lengths were a little longer but will keep checking back ...Asos yes of course
forgot all about that site..just goes to show how clueless I am Smile

Get a collarless jacket and wear a dress over your trousers

HelloBunny · 24/02/2022 18:07

I’m aiming for a similar look. Velvet jacket, cords, suede boots, floral dresses. I wore really cute outfits when I was younger, always made the effort... Now I’m in hoodies & jeans. And a Mum coat. But I’ve lost the baby weight & feel like upping my style game!

BusterGonad · 24/02/2022 18:28

I think that now we are coming out of Covid, it's also made us look at our clothes more, we're ready to ditch the 'house' clothes and get a bit more dressy.

If you are happy to charity shop but cant find anything then why not try Vinted using the brands suggested above. The choice is astounding and makes it easy to home in on a few clours / dress lengths / brands to whittle things down.

cutebutstabby · 24/02/2022 19:57

Thankyou some really great suggestions here...vinted sounds like a plan for sure and all @bagelsandbrie you've just nailed what I'm after! Grin

Anthropologie for sure, its my dream! But have you also looked at BA&SH....

Gonnagetgoing · 24/02/2022 23:09

Ethereal I’m not sure about but boho I got a lovely red black and white floral midi skirt from Matalan.

Anthropologie, in sales, & other stories and vintage shops.

cutebutstabby · 24/02/2022 23:16

Yes I'll take a look in Matalan. Ba&sh is an absolute dream by the looks of things and a snip at a mere £196 for a dress in the sale🤩 Might start making my own haha. It's true that coming out of lockdown it's making me want to enjoy fashion again 😊

Joe Browns?? I love some of their clothing but never bought from them.Maybe someone else could comment on sizing/quality?

KirstenBlest · 24/02/2022 23:37

Ii like their catalogue but the clothes aren't the best quality @NorthernSoul55. It's ok but not excellent

Gonnagetgoing · 25/02/2022 10:25

@KirstenBlest a friend of mine likes their clothes but I’m not keen!

1moreglassplease · 25/02/2022 11:19

Monsoon love the floaty look and there's also East which I think is still available online. Both still have sales on.

Happy36 · 25/02/2022 11:23

Try to find a tailor to adjust clothes so they really fit you well.

whatisthisinhere · 25/02/2022 16:20

I used to know my size. I used to just wash my hair and go. Now my size changes with my hormones almost daily, and my hair just wants to frizz or hang like a lank thing

KirstenBlest · 25/02/2022 17:26

@Gonnagetgoing, they look fun in the brochure but they're a bit festival-y. I like how the Monsoon and East things look too but I'm not the right shape for them. I think Monsoon suits a softer more hourglass shape and East tends to be too long on me.

This. I totally relate. Plus the hormonal skin outbreaks… has definitely impacted my confidence!
Northernsoullover · 25/02/2022 23:07

I like the Italian clothing. It tends to be sold in independent shops but just type Italian dress into ebay and loads will come up. Its fairly inexpensive too.

Yes I can really relate to this...my original post should have stated that I live in not just skinny jeans but skinny JEGGINGS as that would be far more accurate :D I rejected anything with a buttons or a zip around the waist after getting repeated bloating from ovarian cysts and hormonal changes - they were the only things I could fit into.... I have about 10 pairs of them in assorted shades of blue and black and they only cost £7 from £land :D
