ok, I';m going to a party in Feb and thought I would wear my vintage (I think 1950s) black wool crepe dress - I'll try to post a picture soon, but it's one I bought for my graduation all of 25 odd yrs ago from Chelsea Antiques Market - it is lovely with a fab neckline that frames shoulders and decolletage very beautifully, nips in at the waist and has a kind of tulip shaped shirt, going to below the knee - if you think Nigella Lawson curvy, only not as voluptuous- that kind of style. It still fits me as I tried it on this morning. The belt is missing -was a thin self covered belt so I have bought a thin black patent leather belt .. I am now wondering about shoes - would my gold mules look ok - they're medium heels, pointy and quite elegant ? what do you style gurus reckon ?

How about patent stilettos and seamed stockings?
I think mules are a bit rough meself.

MaryAnnSingleton · 02/01/2008 17:33

they aren't nasty mules- will do a pic - they're from Hobbs and quite elegant

If you are wearing all black then definitely go with metallic or sparkly shoes.

JackieNo · 02/01/2008 20:46

The mules look good, but maybe not high enough. Can you wear mules with tights? Not sure. Agree with moondog - patent, to match the belt. Black, or a flash of some completely impractical colour. Dress sounds gorgeous .

NomDePlume · 02/01/2008 20:46

dress sounds lovely, but I think those mules are too clumpy. Sorry !

rantinghousewife · 02/01/2008 20:48

I actually like those shoes!! But would need to see dress to see if they would go.

ProjectIcarus · 02/01/2008 20:51

Patent. High. double strap mary janes maybe.

Fancy tights. Black with a pattern. I would only wear those mules with long loose trousers tbh.

Carnival · 02/01/2008 20:52

Red shoes, lips & bag/jewellery.

rantinghousewife · 02/01/2008 20:52

Nope I wouldn't do black patents with a black dress, too funereal.

JackieNo · 02/01/2008 20:54

Something like this or bright red satin.

Mules are nice but would be better with casual summery stuff or jeans I think.

Deffo go for something high and glam.

MaryAnnSingleton · 02/01/2008 22:52

thanks all ! I bought the mules to go with some silk palazzo pants and have worn them with navy linen wide legged trousers and agree that they might be a bit too summery/not high enough... I saw some fab scarlet very high heels in the Hobbs sale this afternoon, but they are just a bit too high for me... was looking for some silvery glittery shoes that I think were in New Look before Christmas - now they'd be ace ! Tried dress on with belt but it looks better in a way without. The bodice is quite tight around ribs, but not uncomfortable - I'm just not used to things that are fitted - can sit ok and bend down, so shouldn't feel too restricted. Will try to get a picture of it on,took one of it on hanger, but too dark to show detail.

Those Office ones are gorgous - you could do the red, the turquoise or the bronze ones, I reckon.

Seasider · 03/01/2008 15:28

Not mules. Too summery and might be slippy with tights/hold ups whatever. Office shoes are lush. Black but glittery shoes might work...

docket · 03/01/2008 15:34

those shoes are fantastic! dribbles
