Retinol - shiny face. How to fix?

I have found that after a couple of weeks of using retinol, that my face has become rather shiny. Especially my cheekbone area.

I was using it every other day or so, but I'm going to go for just once a week, I think. But I thought I'd check incase this is normal and something that will iron itself out, along with wrinkles after a wee while.

Its not a greasy or oily type of shine. It feels soft and smooth. It just looks like a plastic shine 😆 best way I can describe it.

Thanks @doadeer

I use The Ordinary Retinol and love it. They do it in a couple of different strengths and I’m pretty sure it cost no more then £10.

Thanks everyone. I'll check out the dermatica and the ordinary retinol ones and decide between the two.

It really is reassuring to know that people like the look. I was really self conscious thinking that people must be thinking I looked awful or something. But at least hearing your comments, it seems more likely that women especially would have known what it was and wouldn't have thought much about it.

I know I shouldn't care what people think, but my anxiety tells me otherwise.

Don’t reduce your use keep going and you adjust , once a week won’t do anything really

I’m like you am not sure the tret glow is for me as it kind is makes me look greasy rather than glowy but I adjusted after a while and on a good day just have smooth plump looking skin rather than full on glow

It could also actually be oil tho , retinol is drying initially and you may be producing more oil in response to this in which case make sure you moisturise more at night

Thanks. I will keep it up for a few more weeks and hopefully it settles down. I am tempted to see if I can buy some of that blotting stuff to see if oil is there. Its definitely reduced the lines around my eyes so I don't want to stop it, I'd just rather not be shining.

I use Retirides from Spain. I've used the lowest strength for about a year, daily for the last three months and am just about to start using the next strength up.

I do find it works for wrinkles (I am mid fifties) but my skin is naturally dry so I haven't had the shiny look you all talk about 😂. I do have to use loads of intense moisturiser including E45 cream when using tret.
