What's the best home dye for putting platinum/white tones into gunmetal grey hair?

I know.... you shouldn't do it at home. But I need a pic for my passport and no time/money to go to the hairdressers. I can't bear to see this dowdy salt and pepper look for the next ten years!

What’s your hair currently like? You can get ash toners but they’ll only tone not lift. So if your hair isn’t light enough to begin with then only bleach will do that step.

Also, the multitonal look you’re seeing on the photo is ‘ribboning’. If your hair isn’t already multitonal and is just one block colour then you won’t achieve that without lightening (bleaching) sections.

For something low maintenance you could ask a hairdresser for balayage and then maintain the toner at home. Be upfront about the fact you’re doing this though and what you’re after.

I know this isn't what you asked OP but your hair looks like a beautiful blonde-silver to me, not salt n pepper at all

Beach blonde have lovely strong toners for your hair colour, although it already looks nice.
