Is sezane worth the price tag or is there somewhere selling similar for less?

I’ve fallen in love with these sezane clothes but the dress in particular seems really expensive for what it is. Can anyone recommend somewhere that sells similar for less, or is the quality really worth it (I’ve never bought from them before)?

I don't have any Sezanne. The Times fashion writers punt the brand endlessly but the styling vibe (oh, god I'm so French, I've just fallen out of bed and can't find my hairbrush, bra or knickers. And I am half French) annoyed me (although the current web- site is less irritating)

Zara might be an alternative for that style

DramaAlpaca · 14/02/2022 00:50

I've a few things from Sezane and I think the quality is good.

There was a thread about Sezane quality a few days ago, you might want to do a search.

I agree Zara would be a good shout for similar.

SarBear1980 · 14/02/2022 07:17

I love sezane for browsing ideas but you can usually find very similar pieces in &Other Stories and Zara for far less money. I’ve always been out off Sezane by the need to spend so much to avoid taxes things now. I do also love La Redoute if you like the French style.

Wiennetta · 14/02/2022 07:32

I like Sézane and have loads from there. I think it’s much better quality than &Other Stories and Zara to be honest - but agree you can get similar styles. I’d look on eBay and Vinted as there’s a good market for Sézane second hand. If you like Sézane you may like Rouje and BelleRose.

What is sezane sizing like? Their sizes for knitwear went from xxs to xxxl with no explanation of what they meant.

NalPolishRemover · 14/02/2022 07:50

I have quite a few things from Sezane and I find the quality far better than zara etc
I would recommend it purely for the quality aspect. I have 5 or 6 shirts / blouses & they're beautiful. The finish & quality was a pleasant surprise.

@ThisIsNotARealAvo there’s a size guide on their website with measurements.
Abra1d1 · 14/02/2022 08:11

Their knitwear is very good quality and so warm. I think it’s worth the price.

Lucia574 · 14/02/2022 08:13

I find the cut and quality of Sezane to be very good. I don’t like Zara and am usually disappointed by Other Stories.

teawamutu · 14/02/2022 11:10

£150 for viscose seems a lot to me, though.

LaPampa · 14/02/2022 11:38

I have several sezane pieces and they seem worth the cost, plus they are a B Corp and their garments are often in theory more environmentally friendly / pay their workers better than Zara etc.

StupidAdvice · 14/02/2022 11:42

OP, I can't suggest anything similar - but I would not be buying any jumper that's 26% artificial fibre for that price!

crumble82 · 14/02/2022 14:58

Thanks everyone for your suggestions/advice. I haven’t looked at la redoute so I’m going to have a look there (thanks for the reminder @SarBear1980). I’m usually disappointed by Zara, I’m too short for their clothes to look good on me but I’ll see what else I can find.

I have that cardigan in a different colour and it's lovely. Warm, wears well, one of my favourites at the mo and worth the price. It's similar(ish) to American vintage which is in same / more expensive price range and which are also nice. I think you need the 26 % man made fibre to let the mohair keep its shape and not pill.

LaPampa · 14/02/2022 15:01

I have yet to receive a la reroute order that wasn't heavily delayed or cancelled but I gather some have had better luck

Dancingonmyownagain · 14/02/2022 15:05

I find Sezane jumpers super itchy so hav got rid of mine.

There’s a great second hand selling page on Facebook (Sezane Marketplace International). Sellers are genuine Sezane lovers and you can pick up some great pieces, albeit not for much less than original price

Wnkingawalrus · 14/02/2022 15:14

I have a sweater, dress and skirt which are all decent quality for the price.

But I would not pay £150 for a short, unlined dress that will almost certainly be see through but too short to wear a slip.

Verite1 · 14/02/2022 15:26

I have quite a few things from Sézane and I think quality is good. One dress from there gets compliments nearly every time I wear it. I don’t have any knitwear though. The website normally says if you need to size up or down. In general, I would say it runs slightly to the large though.

Isonthecase · 14/02/2022 15:39

No idea on the quality but I love the cardigan! Looks like wearing a (very stylish) hug.

Ohchristmastreeohchristmastree · 14/02/2022 15:52

I have the same problem of loving Sezane, but not the price tags!
Places like &otherstories are still out of my budget or more than I’m willing to pay.

Promod has very similar knitwear at around the £40 price range . I also got some bits from Lindex (lovely dark brown mohair mix jumper) for about £35. And I’ve found similar at Mango but it’s like one jumper in 30 that fit the bill, unlike Sezane where I want to buy the lot. I get a lot of my wardrobe at H and M and tend to only buy linen, cotton or wool (mix) things and have accumulated a good wardrobe.

Although I have been living a more active lifestyle recently and often live in sports wear. Trying to get out of this when the weather heats up a bit!

BlackMagicWimpund · 14/02/2022 17:24

They used to be better but have become much more popular and so have put up their prices AND introduced more synthetics as a result. The quality (whilst still lots better than Zara etc) has definitely gone downhill compared to 3+ years ago IME.

A lot of people from the Sezane FB groups are also boycotting them due to their pretty shameful practices regarding cultural sensitivity and fair pay:
