Bikini Waxing - Ingrowing hairs

PussInBootsWithClaws · 01/01/2008 17:09

Any suggestions on how I can avoid ingrowing hairs after a bikini wax.

In the past I've just had the sides tidied up without to many problems but had a 'brazilian' a while back and had horrid problems with ingrowing hairs.

I'd love to get another brazilian as it earnt me major brownie points with DP but I'm worried about the inevitable (sp) lumps!

TIA

have you tried gently exfoliating a couple of times a week? that is meant to help.

you've got to be really vigilant, scrub and moisturise. i think, like leg waxing, the more you have it done the less it happens. i have not had full brazillian though.

I've tried some of the cream based exfoliators as a general thing but my skin always seems to react to them.

I will have a look for some more natural ones and try those - thanks

Meant to ask - how long after having the wax should I wait before I start scrubing / exfoliating.

I read on another thread about using aloe vera etc. to calm down any soreness so will get some of that in as well.

You can get exfoliating gloves from shops such as Superdrug, which cost a couple of pounds, and are an easy and reusable way to "work out" ingrown hairs. Also good for improving skin tone on arms, legs etc.

Sorry, meant to say that once the redness of the waxing has died down, you can start exfoliating. You only need to do it gently though and if it is a little sensitive, leave it for a few days before trying again.

In addition to exfoliating, can I recommend the following miracle product? It's called Tend Skin - I use the liquid. Am a great one for ingrown hairs, and this sorts them out a treat - overnight, in most cases.

try not to keep picking at them with tweezers even tho it is an absorbing activity, I make mine worse

Exfoliate with a natural sea sponge every other day. I also use Ingrow Go which is excellent and gets rid of them very quickly!

Thanks everyone - looks like DP will be getting a bit of a new year's present then.

Those gloves sound especially good MaggieW, no worrying whether I'll react to yet another product

second vote for the gloves, use them everyday about the third day after the Brazilian. And give yourself a good old scrub!

Also tea tree based products are supposed to reduce ingrowing hairs, but haven't used them.

Are you in London, I can recommend a good waxer near Bond street tube- she's truly great.

Thanks for the offer theprecious - in Cardiff though
