I feel that I have tried on or looked at every coat in my neck of the woods, I even went to Leeds for the day and tried there. I am seriously freezing in my current coat but feel like complete frump in my (very warm but ugly) fleece jacket which I cannot wear to work! I cannot bear to think of being this cold for the rest of winter (and looking this shabby too!) Please help me [sob]

I'm after 3/4 length, I can't be doing with long ones as they drag on the ground.
Cannot be a swing coat or double breasted or voluminous in any way as I look hideous and much larger in any of these styles
I'm a size 16
I'm a pale redhead so would prefer not black, but don't think I can be that fussy now!
My budget is up to £200 as I was given some money and sold my other coat

I have currently a thin red 3/4 length wool one from Next which cost about £70 but is looking v.shabby as I've worn it non-stop for 3 years+. It's v-neck, fitted and suits me really well but can I find anything like it as a replacement?!!!!

This red one from Hobbs was lovely but not in my size online or in the Leeds shop (also the brown tweed one but not avail. either)

Would def suggest Hobbs, i think their coats are the best on the high street inb terms of quality and price.
I bought the red Marina and brown tweed Marina in the sale but the tweed one is too tight, the red one is lovely.
As Hobbs won't send out coats from their shops in the sale, I called the website customer service number and asked them which JOhn Lewis store had the coats in my size. Then called that JL branch and bought the coats over the phone and they sent them free of charge.
The brown tweed one should look good with your colouring, its very flattering sort of brown/cream fleck. Is also nice and thick = warm. HTH

Is this any good?

I think it looks great, not a bad price either. Lands End are generally very well made and good value.

If you look at the stuff for cold weather in the Outerwear section on this site, you will also see some down filled coats which will be super warm, and look good enough for work too, like this one which is reversible.

accessorizemybaublessanta · 01/01/2008 14:05

Ooh thanks Pannacotta, had no idea they did Hobbs at JL. I did see the tweed Marina in the Leeds shop and it was lovely though an 8. I shall follow that up tomorrow! Thanks so much...

Thanks, clumsymum, that one looks quite nice too although the colours not hugely exciting.

Pannacotta · 01/01/2008 14:10

I have the 10, was a touch too small for me, am going to take it back to JL.
The Customer service people can do a stock check and tell you who has the coat in stock.
If no joy I could send you mine if you are desperate. Is new with tags (bought last week).

accessorizemybaublessanta · 01/01/2008 15:05

Thanks pannacotta but I am a 16 !

Pannacotta · 01/01/2008 15:24

whoops so sorry dont know where I got that from, esp as you mention your size in the OP!! (blame lack of sleep!)
Hope you find what you need, its a fab coat.

fishie · 01/01/2008 15:28

i got one in benetton, single breasted, mid thigh, biggish collar and nice big pockets. it was only about £80 too. they come in loads of colours, i got dark grey. i'm a 16 too with v wide shoulders and xl fits perfectly. their website is extremely useless so cannot show you.

accessorizemybaublessanta · 01/01/2008 19:47

Fishie, sounds good but not sure if we have a benetton!

Pannacotta, update, I did as you suggested and they had one left in the entire country so JL are posting it to me, I just hope it fits! I never would have known otherwise so thanks
Also did the same thing to buy ds1 a coat for the freezing weather from Pumpkin Patch, feeling quite pleased with myself now [smug emoticon]

Fab accessorize, do hope it fits, is a gorgeous coat.

accessorizemybaublessanta · 10/01/2008 12:34

Pannacotta, it is a lovely coat, however not on me! The side pockets somehow manage to make my hips look huuuuge (and they're not). Rats. Will follow up Bennetton and Lands End suggestions now - any other ideas?

Pannacotta · 10/01/2008 16:46

What a shame. John Lewis have some and Laura Ashley too, will have a quick look.

Pannacotta · 10/01/2008 16:49

Nothing on Laura A site, JL better to look in store.
Did see this but only showing in black
www.kew-online.com/kewwebshop/shopdetail.aspx?season=0702&sty_num=6021&sty_qual=063, do you have a Kew nearby? Also have you tried Jigsaw?

accessorizemybaublessanta · 10/01/2008 20:35

I did find that Kew one at lunchtime actually but really didn't want black! I've tried a few one and they make me feel so drab...Have never been into Jigsaw, I'll have a look online. Thanks, pannacotta. LandsEnd coat no longer listed now, clumsymum...

accessorize did you look at the other Hobbs coats? This one looks nice and you could have it taken up?

Anything on here

accessorizemybaublessanta · 10/01/2008 22:36

Thanks again, Pannacotta. I did look thoroughly through all the principles stuff (in store and online) but nothing . I think with the coat itself plus getting it taken up, the Hobbs one is too pricey for me. I'm really gutted the other one looked so awful on me!
